After 28 days with the phone I have some thoughts on it
I love it to death but a few issues make me say goodbye ...for NOW...
this is my 4th smart phone and 8th phone in the last 10 years.
I have had everything from blackberry to iphone to sony ericson and nokia

I expected a few things from my phone for criteria:
To make and receive quality calls
Solid build
Battery last 2-3 days with medium use
Durable
Great sound quality for calls and music
a good camera capable of 2.3 MP or more
3G speeds
Wifi
GPS
Great browser/internet
great keyboard physical or on screen

I came from symbian S60 OS
let me say after 28 days i LOVE android completely and totally, my phone next and future will be android only. I love the O/S

I do not however like my hardware its on.
I am returning my DIC because of the following reasons:
Battery life:
lasts a day with Auto brightness, ALL SYNCs OFF. 3G on. 150 texts, no calls. 30 mins of internet. 45 minutes of padnora streaming. No camera or GPS or Wifi ALL OFF

I know I can get a bigger battery but I am sorely disappointed with battery life. Maybe a Future OTA will fix this. I have tried all fix's
I also think having to unplug the plug and turn it off every night to fully charge the battery because the hardware/software wont fully charge it correctly sucks. Maybe OTA will fix it too. I realize for a smartphone of these specs battery will suck. but it should make it a full day.

Call Quality: Mine sucks. flat out. if my signal is -51 db or -101 db. zero bars to full bars. City or country. 3G or not. Earpeice or loudspeaker or bluetooth or headset. EVDO C or EVDO C. My call quality SUCKS. I know its NOT verizon becuase a phone right next to it from 2006 on the same network gets crystal clear calls.

Maybe an OTA update will fix this.

Camera quality:
I came from a 4 year old sony ericson with 3.2 MP and a xenon flash that took pictures leaps and bounds above my 8 MP HTC..Flash on or off. screen tap focus or optical button focus. Daylight or nightlight. My camera quality isnt anything decent. Also video quality is choppy and not smooth or high quality. Both are lacking dearly.

Built in mic/Earpeice:
Both my internal mic and ear piece suck. What I mean by this is that when I talk on the phone, record memo's, record videos or leave voice messages to myself. The quality sucks. This may be HTC hardware at fault or software, But the nexus one and all my other past phones are WAY above this quality audio wise. The earpiece is too quiet and sounds distorted.

Maybe OTA can fix this as well.

This phone does SO much well. and Android is to thank for this.
I love Sense interface and I love the style and design of this phone.
But those things keep me from keeping it for now.
I know HTC is coming out with a update to address a lot of these issues...and root will help too...
but This is my 5th replacement phone and new incredibles wont be shipped for another few weeks after my 30 day point is up.

I am returning this phone and using a 8 year old LG for pure voice calls/text till the new Incredible ship and HTC updates them OTA to fix the battery/call quality. Or Ill wait for the Motorola shadow to come out and buy that. Both have android 2.1 and I wouldn't chose anything else.

The incredible is a great phone but falls short of being what I expected. Android OS however is amazing.

LoL too funny. If you expect a smartphone battery to last 2-3 days with a stock battery then you are dreaming... better off sticking with your dumbphone that can go a week strait... without an extended battery no smartphone that you actually use will do this.

As for the mic and speaker...mine works great but to each their own.

Your old phone takes better pictures? Haha too funny. Sorry but no phone will take good pictures in a dark room. Have you even snapped pictures outside during the day? Or even in a decently lit room? I have and they look tits. Tits is good...

I have to agree BradG with everything he just said. lol A smartphone to last 2-3 days....for real?? Good luck finding a smartphone with that kind of battery life.

My call quality and mic and speaker seem just great to me. Way better then my Eris.

And the pictures...... I'm confused here. I mean there is a whole thread dedicated to how great the picture quality is. I don't know man sounds to me like your looking for reasons to get rid of your phone. but thats cool. Good luck

My trusty Nokia E61 smartphone (which I'd used for 4 years prior to the Incredible) lasted about 8-12 hours a day with high to moderate usage of its web browser and other data-based applications. So the Incredible's battery performance didn't seem out of place at all for me. Granted, I don't really know how it compares to other modern smartphones, but I managed to survive pretty well with that kind of battery life for many years.

I came from a Nokia E61i, then to a E71 I had picked up when I was in Bangkok visiting family (w/ thai keyboard layout) and both those phones could last me 2-3 days with light to moderate usage, 4 days just idling...Obviously the battery life got worse after time went on and before I switched to the DInc it was getting closer to less than 24 hours on battery life on the E71.

Keep in mind though...I was not using GPS, WIFI or 3G...I just used it for calls, ROM emulators to play games and that was it....no wifi, no data plan whatsoever (I had T-mobile).

Granted had I used it fully featured like it was meant to be...I'd expect battery life to be close to a day if not slightly more.

I think the DInc's battery life is right in line with about a days usage with most features on...to expect it to last 2-3 days is asking to much...an iphone doesn't even do that(and most consider the iphone the benchmark for touchscreen bar phones these days).

This is of course my opinion and my observation...I am very happy with my DInc as I am sure many others are too as well. Sorry to hear it did not live up to your expectations...

Well, to be fair -- my Nokia E61i and E71 all would last for three to five days with three IMAP mailboxes with 15 minute sync intervals and Exchange DirectPush going 8AM-5PM and 15 minute sync outside of those times.

However, unlike the OP I won't be going back to Symbian any time soon.

Why do you people jump down anyone's throat when they say anything negative about this phone. its a phone, not your mother. and not everyone who has a bad experience with an incredible is a Troll. a forum is not all about rosey reviews, its about a users experience. This guy doesn't sound like a troll at all, and has some valid points. Now if some of you used different phones besides ones that are offered directly through your carriers, you would know there are Nokia phones, Sony phones, etc, smartphones that do hold long charges. now 2/3 days...ehhh, that's stretching it imo. However, a full day into the next morning is not. And I don't see that on my incredible. And voice quality? Mine is down right terrible. I know some of you have great call quality, but guess what? Some of us don't! And it doesn't mean the phone sucks, it just means that some shipped with problems in that area. And in my eyes thats a bad area to have problems with, it is a phone after all, before anything else.

There is a specific reason there are no incredibles to be found. and hear this out, we will never know why! Yea, it could be the screen shortage, and it very well may be the fact that there was an internal problem on the device. And Verizon figured why sell a phone that may have a problem, and then we have to replace it anyway. just fix it, whatever it is, and then re-release it. It costs them a ton of money when a phone is returned, and I'm not a fan of going into the store 2/3 times to return and hopefully get a good one. Seriously, HTC, Verizon...just get it right! So in closing, i'll say....YESSSS, THE PHONE IS AWESOME... just needs some fixing on some things. And if they can deliver that...ladies and gentleman, u would be looking at one of, if not the best device to hit in some time.

You really needed to make a post on this? I am guessing you want to just stir up some fun before you leave? Regardless maybe you should go into Phone Developing so you can make this "Dream" Smart Phone you are talkin about...

You know the one with the 3 day batter with moderate use, with a LAN line option so you are guaranteed to have perefect call quality and never worry about dropping signal, have a 12 MP come out of it go go gadget style so you can take your picture. Also maybe have like a HIGH END laptop pop out so you get blazzing fast download speeds along with Hard wired option so you have internet connection at ALL times.

You know like the guy said early to each their own but the majority of people don't see any of the problems you are seeing but the battery life. That has been a known issue and is a known issue of all smart phones EVEN THE iPHONE!

I hope you find your dream phone but this phone does everything better than any phone I have ever owned..

In just the short time I have been reading this site, researching this phone, its so true that if anything bad is said about the incredible the dipshits jump to IPHONE LOVER! GO BACK TO YOUR IPHONE.
What a load of crap. When there is no criticism of the phone and everything is in praise of it, who the f*ck wants to read that? Its not helpful at all

OP, your expectations are too high.

Odds are that you won't be pleased with the Motorola Shadow either, or any phone for that matter, sounds like you are hard to please, 8 phones in 10 years is a lot of new phones. Besides the leaked Shadow specs aren't any better than the specs on the Incredible. Maybe you should wait for the Droid Magnifico.

You know I see what you are saying but honestly its about the expectations this guy has that is questionable. That is the only reason I am irritated by this post. I agree this phone has SOME issues but ALL phones will have SOME issues. I am completely happy with this phone and willing to deal with the little issues that do come up.

its a phone, not your mother.

I threw it on the grooooouuuuuuuund! I'm not a part of your system!

Anywho, this past weekend I took my Dinc off the charger at around 0700 Saturday morning and didn't plug it back in until Sunday night around 2100 when it was at 10% (stock 1300 mah battery). And I used it plenty enough to make me happy over the weekend.

On work days I only manage to get from about 0700 to 2200 because my signal is shit at work so it struggles on sync and usage.

I don't get the battery complaints at all. You can have a car that gets 40 mpg, but if you drive it wide open all the time your mileage will suck.

I am returning mine because I don't think we will have root. I know there was supposed to be some progress made but from reading xda it does not look like it worked.

Without root you are stuck waiting (...and waiting...) for HTC/Verizon to decide to send you updates. That is not good enough for me. Android moves fast and I need a phone that can move with it.

I am not going to T-Mo or dropping nearly $600 on a phone (N1) so I will retreat to my trusty WinMo phone until something better comes along which I am sure it will.

I agree with this, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If the guy doesn't like the phone, he doesn't like the phone why is this causing such a stir here? Me personally? I love this phone, easily the best phone I have ever used. Does that mean everyone else is going to feel the same way? Not a chance.

With that being said, these "why I returned my Incredible" threads are pretty much pointless. You don't like the phone for whatever reason, that's fine. Just return it and be quiet, there is no point in posting it up here because odds are good not many people are going to agree with you. Hopefully you can find the phone you are looking for but just understand this, the utopia of a smart phone you describe is not going to exist. Smart phones are not known for their fantastic battery life.

I respectfully disagree with you, I think some phones are glitchy, but most are fine, I just think the demand outweighed the supply, whether that is warranted or not is yet to be determined, I for one am happy with my Incredible. I think the OP will get drilled and called a troll because that was only his second post ever, so I assume that he posted just to stir the pot with happy incredible users.

No disrespect, but your expectations will not be met by any current device. You just returned the best smartphone that exists, ATM and IMO. If Inc had a keyboard (like TP2's), it would walk on water :)

1. Call quality is very good and signal too (I live in KY, for gosh sake)
2. Sound quality for music from 3.5mm and speaker is better than any other phone I have tried (tried a lot), except the N900 (not even most media players can touch N900).
3. The battery is 1300 mah and runs a snapdragon, 3.7" display, 3G, multi-tasking and whatever else you may have on (browsing, media, etc) and calls. You are not practical in your wants here.
4. Camera quality is great- for a smartphone, but still trumped by the N900 (which sux as a phone, IMO).

Given some of the problems you report are not common by most and your other needs (camera and battery) are not practical, is this really a bait post?

added:

BTW, if you check my posts, I am a PICKY son of a beeeuuch and I think the Inc rocks and live in an area where if call quality and signal coverage were to suck for a device- it would. Sure wish my N900 was using Android and Verizon- has 32gb built in, microsd slot too, plays every codec there is, keyboard and the best sound quality of any device except the Gmini 402 media player that I own.

N900 just sux as a smartphone, but great for everything else. Irony.
