Help In-call volume

I've been using my google I/O Evo for a few days now, and i've noticed that i'm having quite a bit of trouble hearing people talk during a call. My hearing is pretty average(I think?) and I'm holding the earpiece directly toward my ear. I've tried pressing the volume rocker to the max for high volume output, but callers sound extremely faint. I've never really had this issue with my past flip phones. Am I missing a volume control somewhere, or do you think i have a defective unit? Thanks guys

As we haven't heard anything else from other IO evo owners, I would assume this is an issue with your particular phone. Hopefully you can exchange it after the release date.

I really hope this is not the case with all the phones. I have a hard time hearing sometimes (many years of concerts when I was younger haha) and have never had a phone where I could hear comfortably. Well, I do have a WinMo phone now, which there is a registry hack to increase the earpiece volume. It does make it sound distorted, but at least I can hear it. I'm new to Android, but maybe there is a similar hack to increase the volume through the hardware?

thanks for the reply,

Update: Whats really weird is...theres a feature under settings that enables hearing aid equipped users to turn the in call volume up. I toggled the option on and off. I checked it again, and now its off. The in call volume is now great! Maybe i just needed to mess around with it a little:D

Thanks for the heads up. I find my 3GS, and really ALL of the AT&T phones I've owned / used to not have good enough volume. Either it's me or AT&T as I can't see each phone having the same issue.

If the volume can be cranked up a good big, awesome. Thanks!

No problem at all. In fact, i actually toggled on the hearing aid function just for fun, and the earpiece was REALLY loud(obviously?). Great call quality as well, and i havent had an issue with the signal bars like my cousins have had with their incredibles.

i got my evo on the 4th, and i have the same problems. i can barely hear anybody, every call. when i turn the volume up to max, the earpiece is crackling and making awful noises for every word from every person. its just...awful. hopefully a replacement will fix this issue. i wonder if an OTA update could fix it, i know a lot of other people are having the same issue as well.

thank you for the suggestion to turn the hearing aid option on, but even at the lower hearing aid option, while it is quite loud, the distortion is worse. :/

Got my Evo on Monday (2 days ago) and the in-call volume, while maxed is pretty low for me (lower than my now replaced touch pro). It doesn't sound bad or anything like what others have been reporting, just lower volume, still clear.

Have also tried the hearing aid option, and while it's slightly better, would still rather it be just a bit louder so I don't have to have the hearing aid thing enabled, hopefully there'll be an app sooner or later (or an update) to increase the volume a bit more.

I can hope at least, either way still love the phone. :)

I am also having the very same problem. I've had my phone for a couple of months and I only started having the call volume issue for about the past week. Prior to that no issues. Now my speakerphone also does not work. I've gone through the phone's volume settings and maxed them all. Still can barely hear person on the other end.
