Android OS outselling iPhone Globally?

Google has announced that 100,000 new Android OS phones are being activated daily.

Apple sold on average 97,222 phones per day in Q1.

I don't have Apple's current per day sales figures, but unless they have pushed it up a notch (which recent data suggests is not the case), then Google may very well be outselling the iPhone Globally.

If it isn't outselling the iPhone it is certainly surprising (not that it is, just that it is already).

So, Google is either close to, or already, outselling the iPhone Globally.

the flip side is that the iphone is 1 phone, you can pull it out to 2 or 3 models, but it is one device.

so it is selling slightly less then android with 1 model on 1 network.....still impressive.

isnt it more impressive that Android has reached out to multiple manufactures to offer their customers a selection thus surpassing the market with a superior product?

Keep in mind though... Apple has a HUGE household name in many places around the world. People who don't even care about phones know about Apple and their iPhone and it's reputation. It's kind of like what Nintendo had back then. My uncle bought me a Sony PS1 a long time ago for my birthday and my mom said to my uncle "Why'd you get him a Nintendo?" (of course in Korean)

Anyone who doesn't really know smartphones and the choices very well will usually get an iPhone simply for the brand name, popularity, and from influence. As I always say... "The iPhone is all the rage amongst middle schoolers!" Once a big device is popular amongst tweens, I'm done with it. lol

If he is talking about internationally, the iPhone does not have exclusive contracts overseas. That is why this would be a bigger deal than locally.

The only exclusive contract, that I'm aware of, is between Apple and AT&T in the US. I don't think Apple is limited to one carrier in any other country.

It makes sense, then, that Android overtook Apple in the US first, and has moved to overtake Apple Globally.

With wireless integration into TV's and the Desktop coming for Android, I think that the platform still has some exploding to do.

Use to be in the UK until the beginning of this year, is it outselling globally?

With Google activating 100,000 new android phones per day, it is very possible. There has been no official word yet.

As of last quarter, Apple was averaging 97,222 iPhones sold per day. So, if Android isn't outselling the iPhone Globally, it's darn close.

I hope both OS's do well. As they compete we win. The bar keeps moving higher. Who knows what both will do in the future. I have both android devices and Apple Devices. Both work great.

I disagree. I think Google is doing pretty darn well with little competition.

I don't really see the iPhone as being much competition for Google in the future.

It's not hard to have explosive growth when you're giving your product away for free, even if it wasn't as good as it is we'd still see it gaining a lot of ground.

That's the thing though, isn't it. Verizon can do that with older models (and cheaper models) in order to bring in new smartphone users. That's the absolutely great thing about choice.

If the iPhone isn't competition for Android then what is? Things get stale when manufacturers don't have any competitors.

Google isn't a manufacturer. Google is a software company. But beyond that point, the things that Google is already doing with Android put it to a point, where the iPhone OS is already not really competition for it.

I mean integration with the desktop over the internet, and integration with the TV over wifi... That's something that I don't think Apple will be able to compete with long term.

I think Apple is a very focused company. It picks something new and focuses on it to refine it to as close to perfect as they can get it.

However, Google has people doing things that are all over the map. And they are integrating those projects together.

If Apple were to attempt to spread themselves out like Google has, I believe, they would fail, and fail miserably.

Therefore, I don't really believe that they will be able to compete with the Android OS... at least not in the direction that Google is taking it.

1. Why? I think this is something that Android won't be doing in the immediate future either, so I'd be willing to bet if it's known and useful, Apple is already working on it...

2. Apple doesn't spread themselves out as much for the purpose of releasing stable versions. If you've ever played with an iPhone, you know that "it just works," and works REALLY smoothly.

I'm a fan of Android, and never owned an iPhone (I leave that to my buddies), so it's not like this is a biased opinion.

1. Sony release the first android TV this fall. The desktop program for phone integration is due out by fall as well.

Apple has had a virtual monopoly with iTunes, and has done little to actually upgrade the service. I doubt very seriously that they would start now.

Why they don't spread themselves out really doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that Google is making the iPhone obsolete.
