EVO Input Lag?

ok so iv been reading and found that supposedly the evo could be a bit laggy in certain situations. for instance this multitouch test app, where the evo works properly unlike the n1, but the evo does seem to lag a bit. will froyo 2.2 fix this, or maybe if someone makes a custom rom?

does anyone here have the evo yet or know more about this? i know there is a number of people with the evo already. any input appreciated because im supposed to be getting the evo the day it comes out, if not, i dont know what phone to get . thanks

OH OH,,,,that is scary! The EVO looks terrible in that video. I saw the same video with the incredible and the nexus, and the incredible was spot on perfect. I will be pissed the effff off if the EVO ships with touch lag issues. Ruined my morning with this video...

Well, it seems to me the fingers were moving a bit faster on Evo than Nexuz. It's not exactly apple to apple test.

exactly. none of us would even being doing those motions/type of multitouches with our fingers anyways. so it lags slightly when performing a motion i'll never do (making circles on the screen with 2 fingers) ? good to know.

there's been 0 reports of multitouch problems from ANYBODY. we're fine, guys.

I surely hope so! The Nexus was terrible when it came to having an unresponsive screen. But the the nex is ameeeeeloyd...lol, and the EVO is LCD so hopefully we should be goooood!

idk iv read a couple, yes only a couple reports where people were saying it was a bit laggy. im hoping its just software and 2.2 will remove this issue. also can you link me to the video with the incredible? i could only find one where the incredible is zooming in on maps but i think the evo would still do that fine. the evo and incredible share the same touch sensor, cpu, and ram so i dont see how they would perform much differently...

yeah i read that as well, im really hoping this is just a small software issue that will be updated because i have my mind set on this phone. no other phone appeals to me as much, and no other carrier matches sprints prices, except maybe t mobile which i refuse to use.

but i cant believe that htc is making phones with such critical but dumb issues. the nexus one inverting touch and having other screen issues, the hero lagging, and now the evo lagging. its not acceptable. maybe they should spend less time pumping out a bunch of new phones and more time perfecting a couple, it's getting ridiculous.

if i could run android on an iphone (and make it a 4" + screen haha) i would do it in a heartbeat, apple does have there shit together and never has issues like this, in fact the touch on the iphone/itouch is impeccable without even a tiny hiccup.

k sorry for my rant, but im just getting frustrated because htc is making some nice phones and they ruin them with issues that affect your entire experience with the phone, such as touch or screen issues or lagging...

I think it could just be an isolated issue with that app because in every video I've seen of the EVO in operation I've seen no lag whatsoever. I do recall one review saying the Incredible felt snappier however, can remember which one it was at the moment.

Perhaps a whole bunch programs could be running in the background which does add a lot of lag and battery drainage. I downloaded the Android Task Manager App. It made my EVO very responsive afterwards.

I get what you're saying. My guess is that HTC had to cut costs somewhere..

I must throw out there, how much does a "test scenario" mean that something will suck in real-life usage?

I've had my Evo for... 24 hours now. I've used multi-touch in one way or another... not very much? I'm having a hard time thinking of when I've needed to, except for pinch to zoom/unzoom. And I haven't experienced any kind of "OMG, this thing is SO SLOW" type of responses.

Personally, I think this is getting overblown. The video does show a TEST scenario after all... not something that you'll be constantly doing on the phone.

I've had my google i/o evo for 3 days now, and it shows lag similar to what the youtube video displays. It gets a little bit worse with live wallpaper, but even with static wallpaper, it stutters/lags a little bit, not much, but just enough to be noticeable(this may be why cnet mentioned that the evo was less "zippy" than the incredible). The incredible which i've spent alot of time with, doesnt exhibit this behavior hardly at all unless you enable live wallpaper with numerous apps running in the background. This will hopefully be solved in a future update. Don't get me wrong, this is still the best overall phone that i've seen. Hope this helps

that's a good question to ask that I haven't seen answered yet. does the keyboard lag on the Evo? on my Hero the lag was pretty rampant, so I'm wondering if it is a sense/htc thing.

The incredible which i've spent alot of time with, doesnt exhibit this behavior hardly at all unless you enable live wallpaper with numerous apps running in the background. This will hopefully be solved in a future update. Don't get me wrong, this is still the best overall phone that i've seen. Hope this helps

I'm not surprised by this, I've also seen the Incredible outperform the Evo in a Frame Rate per Second test. I think the assumption that these two phones have the same "guts" is not entirely accurate.

This is sorta disappointing. However, we all know that will every phone there is always some type of draw back regardless of how many things the phone excells in. I do not understand though if the evo uses the same hardware as the incredible, how the evo performs slower than the incredible. I'm thinking (hoping) it's some type of software glitch. Maybe the os that these phones are running is not the official version the phone will ship with?? any thoughts?

I dont have any lag on the keyboard either. I never considered that the hardware on the incredible and evo were signifigantly different. I kinda assumed that the lag was due (mistakenly?)to software/hardware optimization issues on the evo. Pretty interesting point considering the fact that some reviewers are comparing the EVO to the HD2 also. Engadget did mention a loooong time ago that the evo hardware was of obvious HD2 descent; maybe these 2 phones share more similarities under all the listed specifications such as screen size, processor type, etc...than the evo and incredible do. I've always wanted to see an HD2 running android 2.1 and see how it runs in comparison to the EVO and incredible.

The lag really isn't that bad. It just stutters a little bit. If any amount of lag bothers u I would wait and see what happens with the updates. For me though, the lag isn't bad at all

When I use the phone for regular everyday activity I cannot feel the lag seen in the Multitouch visualization test.

This is a bummer! I'll go on record as saying the HD2 had a tremendous amount of lag while typing, and it sucked! However, I'll also say this, it was the clearest phone that I've ever used, loud and on point with call quality. As for the incredible, it is the fastest phone i've ever used. When switching Apps, multi touch, and just over all speed as far as getting on a web page, and what not. The down fall was the crappy call quality issues I had. If not for that, I most likely would have stuck with it. So I'm really hoping that the EVO has good call quality, and that the lag is only affecting some of the first batch phones. If this does become an issue, as well other minor things that play a big roll in everyday use pop up, all I can say is HTC will have dropped the ball. And that is a big ball to drop, especially when they are so close to just becoming the king of the mountain.
