Root Overclocking / MFLOPS performance.

Can anyone help to clarify the correlation between this a little bit? Or exactly what potentially affects the performance?

I've seen some people with 5 MFLOPS and a vast amount of people in the 3-4 range all on the Eris. I'm not sure what to make of this.

I'm running Fresh 2.1.1 and I'm getting significantly lower numbers than any of that. I tried the clock speed at 528mhz, just to see what the "default" would be. Initially I got 1.19 MFLOPS then 1.05 then .82, just doing back to back tests, not running anything else on the phone.

I overclocked to 710mhz (highest I can hit on fresh 2.1.1) and initially I got 1.5MFLOPS then 1.61. It's a significant improvement over the .82, for sure. But how are people achieving such high speeds? I'm assuming each ROM has something to do with it, but is the ROM that significant that it can make the difference of up to 3.5MFLOPS?

not to dis fresh rom, but you should probably switch. something is up, even stock the eris runs 3+MFLOPS. OC isnt working on your phone, its actually UNDERclocking.

Most people hitting over 5 are running JIT, no sense and have a patch applied that OCs up to 800 something. Depending on what rom you are running and OC you should be averaging around 3. Sometimes mine drops all the way down to 1.x but after a few consecutive benches i am around 3.

When I ran fresh I hit an average of 2.9 at 710mhz so im not sure why you are so low. Are your profiles set to something that is underclocking you?

Well, I definitely knew something was up... thanks for the input so far.

To answer your question, I only have three profiles that I run. I run a standby profile at 245, a battery one set to 245 if the battery exceeds 42C (I've had a lot of heat issues, as explained in another post) and then a profile to set the cpu back down to 528 when the battery is lower than 20% remaining.

I refresh the setCPU page, it shows 710mhz. The highest I've been able to pull off all day is a 2.03 while being "overclocked" to 710. I've only hit 1.5-1.6 at regular clock speed.

It doesn't seem like anyone else has had this problem with Fresh, but maybe it's time to switch anyway. I'm interested in the JIT thing, but don't know much about it so I need to research there.

i have a JIT and no sense and i usually hit around 3-4 melops but i really want to hit 5 so where can i get a patch that will work for 800 MHz? i can only get it up 786 or something on the IC3 rom (which is a super fast and powerful ROM).

most phones crash at 806. 787 is the highest consistently steady speed. on my rom i pull 5+ mflops easily

WOW, I have never heard of a stock Eris run 3 MFLOPS. You have got to be kidding. Either that or your just full of $hit. I'll accept either. I'm sorry, but it seems to me that "switching ROMS" seems to be your answer for everything. BTW I realize that you contribute a lot to this forum, of which I appreciate.

Anyways, I flashed the OC patch (found on XDA) and am getting ~3.3 MFLOPS and the phone is extremely fast. I would suggest you try this patch than to switch to another that may be faster but full of bugs. IMO.

EDIT: I am also running Fresh 2.1.1

To the OP- Are you running any polling widgets (like the SetCPU active widget). I noticed these widgets can kill you MFLOPS. With SetCPU active widget running I was seeing 1.5-1.8 MFLOPS with my same setup mentioned above.

Wow, thanks a hundred times over. I was running the SetCPU active widget. I did a few benchmarks, most I hit was 2.1. Removed the widget and ran more benchmarks, most were 2.8+, highest was 2.914.

A big thank you to everyone else who's contributed in this thread. I do agree that I could switch roms to get faster performance, but I also have had no real problems with Fresh (phone overheating issue is unrelated, methinks) and I'd like to stick with it.

I don't even think I'll need to patch to run a faster speed, if using JIT can bring it up to more than 4 - that's more than enough of a significant gain for me.

I found the steps to change the build.prop file, altering the line to enable JIT, but I can't seem to find the files that I need to push to the phone along with this. I get 3.47 mflops on Sense-able 3.1 @806mhz. My phone is not stable long enough to try 825mhz. Is anyones phone stable @825?

Agreed. Stock us usually in the 1.8 - 2.0 area. NOT 3 mflops as he stated. not even close.

The advanced settings are key to really Maxing out performance. I'm running gridlocks vanilla rom and after I flashed the patch I was overclocked to 748 and sitting around 4.0-4.12 started messing around with the advanced settings and got to 5.12-5.15 pretty consistently. You should read the post on xda about overclocking it's very informative. Pretty much you want the min and max to be very close for optimal performance the CPU doesn't do well with jumps of more than 240 MHz so the smaller the jump the better. I set mine at 710-748 and notice a huge difference in responsiveness. So I'd try setting the min and Max closer and mess around with the advanced settings...hope this helped

With all this overclocking, how are peoples battery life? I've taken a dramatic hit. I should set profiles when for times when I need it quick and other times when I don't.
