noticed today that an update was available under settings/about phone/system software updates. the new version is 1.19.161.5 and its about a 24mb download.

ive always found it quite a nerve racking experience upgrading firmware on mobile phones but everything went very smoothly with a reset at end of upgrade. all settings and saved data still in place.

havent found changelog yet but at least vodafone is showing some interest in pushing out firmware updates unlike my previous experiences with o2!!

I have a problem :/

I downloaded the new firmware last night but didn't have enough battery to install so thought I'd leave it until this morning once my phone charged overnight.
I woke up this morning to find that the option to upgrade the firmware from my notifications bar had disappeared. I've checked in "about phone" and I'm still on 1.15.
I've noticed that I have the 23MB zip file in my download folder on the sd card but can't work out how to install it.

Any ideas? :)

No update available for me on my Vodafone supplied un-locked desire. Checked software version and still running 1.15 :-(

Same here, still running 1.15.161.4 - no updates found :(

From what I gather this is to fix an issue with some Vodafone handsets running 1.15.161.4 that would have trouble reconnecting to the network after losing reception, and suffering other network related issues.

I have noticed this on 2 occasions, takes several minutes or a reboot to reconnect.

When I do that it says I'm up to date, even though I'm running 1.15. It's annoying that its on the card but I can't use it D:
Hmm. Tried rebooting your phone? You could also try moving the update off your SD card and try to manually update again.
This is all guesswork, as I have a T-Mo branded device and it came with their newest update already installed, so I haven't had to update manually or otherwise :D.

Updates are staggered to reduce server load. Just be patient if you can I guess.
Interesting to see the Facebook bug has been fixed, I wonder if there will be a similar update for T-Mobile or generic devices.

To manually update the phone

1. Download the official firmware update. http://liveimage.htc.com//OTA_Bravo_Vodafone_UK_1.19.161.5_1.15.161.4_release_P2q1fwy34gicxsiqaq.zip
2. Copy the file to your microSD card and name it update.zip (newb warning: not update.zip.zip)
3. Power off your phone.
4. Hold down the VOLUME DOWN button and power it back on.
5. The phone will now search for files like PB00IMG.zip, etc. This is normal. Scroll down to recovery and press the POWER button.
6. When you see the /!\ symbol, press the POWER button and the Volume Up button at the same time. You should be presented with a menu and one of the options should be "Apply sdcard:update.zip".
7. Use the trackball to navigate to "apply sdcard:update.zip" and select it.
8. When you see "Install from sdcard complete", select "reboot system now".

tried the above, several times, it fails , file verification !!!. File is put on sd card, as update.zip . Downloaded it several times, same problem.

I had the same problem. It was because the update.zip wasn't in the root of the sdcard!! I had it in sdcard\Downloads\update.\ip. Move it to scard\update.zip and you'll be fine :D
