Not sure if its cool me trashing the phone here. My hero is total crap and I really wish I got another phone. I didnt get text messages for a week. When I get vocal mail it sends my a text 20 mins later. I kept getting a user error(forget the code). The gps sometime wont work right unless I reboot. I had to reboot the other day to get my internet to work. The list goes on and on. This think is total junk I really want to break it into little phone pieces but the just wouldnt be smart. If your thinking about getting this phone DONT DO IT!!!!!!

You know this is the perfect place to ask questions. What you are doing right now is describing the symptoms your are experiencing with your phone. If you haven't already noticed a couple of guys have responded with a couple of diagnoses. If people on here can diagnose your phone's problems they can also help you fix it. Why don't you dialogue a little bit. You may find that some of the issues you are having are more user related than phone related. Just sayin'.

Btw-If your phone works better after reboots, like V425 says, you may be having problems from using a task killer. I had some of your same issues earlier on because I was treating my phone like my previous windows-based devices. When I came here and dialogued with some folks, my phone's performance greatly improved.

I got this phone as my first "smart" phone, & while it took some getting used to, the longer I've had it the more I like it. Fwiw, my wife got a crApple iPhone about the same time I got my Hero, & having used both now, I hands down prefer my Hero.
Sounds to me like your phone is not properly set up, or that you may be using a task killer to kill apps (big mistake), which may be causing the laggy symptoms you describe. Best to let the OS control the killing of apps, the phone will run 100% better. This is after all a Linux OS, & as such does not require the use of a task manager like a WinMo OS does.
Check out this thread: http://androidforums.com/sprint-htc...s-your-hero.html?highlight=task+managers+hero

My Hero ran similarly to yours when I was using a task killer. Since I've stopped killing apps & let the OS do it's job my phone runs 100% better. Hope this helps.

I do use task kill but thats becuase the phone gets slow as hell if I dont close apps. Why do they make it so the apps close when I a done using them? I did change some settings when I got the phone so the battery would last a full day. Prob going to reset the phone and download only the apps I need and nothing else. The bottom line is the hero is slow and doesnt have enough memory. Reminds me of dell building winxp machines with 256mb back in the day.

This is probably the root of your problems. Believe it or not this can cause your phone to act the way you have described. You really need to read carhauler1969's link in post #9. Your phone is not a windows-based device. Btw, welcome to the forum.

instead of being as annoying as you are, why not read a bit and stop huffing and puffing for no reason. you dont like the phone and dont care to do any reading on how to work it, then return it and rid us of your idiocy.

personally, this guy just may be a troll.

I just left the phone on and didnt restart it for a week. After I restarted and it and learned the gold rule that you need to restart everyday I get my texts.

I had the same problem and then realized on my Task Killer, that I had it set to auto kill and low security. It essetially was killing my messages/messaging without me really realizing it! Check your setting if you havent already.

Okay dude.... you ARE being a bit rash and ignorant, and most of the time I only respond to posts like this with sarcasm and advice on dropping the phone all together because you've already got a mindset that it sucks, and there's nothing to be done.

You've got way too many problems here. Do a hard reset, make it factory default. DO NOT INSTALL A TASK KILLER. THE PHONE IS NOT A WINDOWS COMPUTER. IT OPERATES DIFFERENTLY. Get that? Your phone will run only what it can handle. If you kill the tasks that are running, the phone is then confused and forced to re-do everything it had to do to open the application(s). If you DON'T kill the processes, the phone tosses the programs to the side in a standby mode, NOT USING CPU.

In a basic, BASIC, sense (so you can't possibly say anything back to it), what I'm saying is that you should just shut up and let your phone do it's thing. Realize this, our phone is NOT the most recent, there WILL be lag, and sluggishness. If you want the newest, fastest thing, wait till the 4th of June and get the EVO.

Do a hard reset, and completely leave out a task killer, do not, do not, DO NOT, install one. Let your phone do it's thing, and just sit back. If you really don't like your phone, just drop it and get a Nextel i850. Trust me, it's much simpler. You can't possibly mess that one up.
