Anyone plan on buying another battery? or know if VZM will offer a external battery charger similiar to what I have for my palm? I use my cell phone a lot, and I would like to have one battery fully charged at all times incase I run out or am going out for the night. This is a fail proof method I have used on my palm for years.

i have the storm now and always carry a spare battery.i don't have an external charger,i just do the switcheroo and charge it in my phone.

That works too, but I prefer to swap my battery at night time and then by the time I get home I have another one charged for the day to come. If anything, I will be purchasing a spare battery on friday when I pick up my driod and doing it your way for a while - atleast until a external battery charger comes out! :)

Anyone know about a car charger?

from what i have seen the car holster does not have a built in charger... but it does look like if you have a car charger you can charge and holster it at the same time

Yeah I know that.
But it would be annoying having to connect the charger manually after docking the Droid to the holder.

I had that set up for my G1 for a while, and I ended up never charging it because it was too much of a hassle.
Specially for all the quick trips I take in my car.

I'm usually anal enough that I have to have an extra, fully charged, battery around at all times... The Droid will probably be no different.

I think I saw it for about $40 on amazon.com.

Verizon has it for $39 - if you get a company discount (my wife and I both work for companies who's employees get discounts on accessories and plans) you'd be better off getting it from Verizon.

No choice. I have a job where I am on the phone for many, many hours sometimes, and I need to have a fresh battery ready for those situations. I was trying to get a Chevron up and running one night not too long ago, and I was on the phone with their database support guys for a LONG time during the 15+ hour fix.
Fortunately, on those long jobs, I am usually on site at night, so I don't use all my minutes in one day!

Question for you guys.

Let's say you get an extra battery... and charge it to full...

but don't use it for awhile and just keep it somewhere ready to go.

How long will the charge just sit there on the battery?

Well I woke up this morning at 11AM. I popped in my new battery that has been sitting for around 48 hours unplugged from my charger. It is now 1:15pm and I have made 3 short phone calls, and have used my calc along with sending out about 20 texts. I'm currently at 93%. I've never replaced a sitting battery and had it lose its charge. Even my laptop battery has been sitting for 4+ months and I just stuck it in my laptop and it was at 92% - i know its apples to oranges but I cant imagine being away from my battery for more than a weekend max. If there is ever any doubt, I just plug the charger back into my external case where my battery rests and see if the little light turns green. Red = charging / Green = fully charged.
