Look Out Here Comes HTC!

It appears HTC has got a good chance to knock the IPhone off its pedestal with its latest handsets. To date Radio Shack has pre sold over 200,000 Evo's for launch weekend and thats only one retailer. They could easily top Apples 1 million mark. Mix that in with the Nexis and Incredible and you have a huge android power house coming! ;)

HTC stands to become a major player with the Android handsets. All they need to do is make sure that their quality improves a little bit -- let's be honest, their phones still feel a little bit cheap compared to Nokia, Motorola, and Apple.

And, of course, they need to be able to improve their supply chain. Whomever is running ERM at HTC should be sacked. Same with Samsung and their AMOLED shortage.

It's sink or swim right now.

While I am excited to get a EVO and move off/out of the iPhone/AT&T network, the real test won't be the initial month of sales but how the EVO and the next few Android phones sustain sales volume. Let's face it, were "techies/geeks/nerds" etc... call us what you will, but anyone posting messages on an Android forums loves tech and the 200k pre orders are probably 90% tech/gadget fans that even know the phone is coming out. The true test is if it continues to sell at a brisk clip months down the road. The N1 had plenty of Hype but never seemed to get it's legs under it like the iPhone has done, and continues to do after 3 years.

Not trying to rain on the parade, as I know the Android OS is here to stay and getting bigger and better by the day. I am 100% on board and ready to learn all about Android and the EVO 4G but I still keep a realistic view of what the market is doing. If anything I just hope phones like the EVO blow up big enough to push both Apple, HTC and other companies to continue to bring us great new phones and keep pushing the network providers to allow us the means to have broadband access anywhere we go.

Yes, I agree 100%...If HTC is going to really be one of, if not the biggest player in the game, thry have to up there quality control. This is not a jab at HTC's current line up. But lets be honest, Nokia, and Apple make some of the best built devices around. Now If HTC can bring it up a notch, they will reign supreme in the End.

Wow.. You are much much braver than me..
lol i didnt do it to my phone til i went to the tmobile store and the rep there did it to a hd2 very very hard with keys, scissors, and a razor. i figured they had the same screen so i did it very gently at first then harder as i saw it didnt do anything. i then promptly bought a screen protector for it. lol knowing my look it will scratch in my pocket. rather be safe than sorry.

Nokia and Motorola higher quality than HTC? Most Nokia and Motorola phones I have seen were horribly cheap/problematic. The Droid was the first Motorola phone in a while I had seen that actually looked like it had decent build quality, although it's still not without faults.

Not saying that there haven't been HTC models without faults, but the overall build quality of HTC phones is generally very high end. I usually look for HTC strongly b/c of their build quality over other manufacturers.

Nokia and Apple also have their own OS's so they have total control of what goes into their phones. They can rewrite their operating systems for hardware they want to use and pay zero fees or royalties on it. HTC is beholden to Windows mobile and Android... Android is open source but it is still provided by Google.... So they kind of have to build based on what the current os supports. With Android they can lessen that gap and build higher quality devices every time....from what I hear the EVO is pretty high quality with the exception of the battery cover

HTC has become a favorite brand for many in the Windows Mobile arena. This gave them an edge when they started putting out Android based phones. Those migrating over were already happy with HTC's Windows Mobile line, so its a good transition.

Agreed one hundred percent. This will be my 5th HTC... Three windows mobile handsets and 2 Android handsets (Including the EVO)

i work at RS and sell Sprint, Tmobile, and ATT. for every Iphone out the door i sell 3-4 Android phones. its simple math.

I think a lot of iPhones are sold at Apple stores as well. Don't underestimate Apple. They have a new phone coming out as well, probably in late June, and they already have around fifty million users worldwide. Just sayin'...
