Root got my replacement eris today.. said system update avail. I am rooting !!

I don't know what unlockr.com is, but the most important thing you can do here, no matter where you get the "root" PB00IMG.ZIP file from, is that you

MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE FILE'S MD5 SIGNATURE BEFORE YOU USE IT.

63eacc5ede3b179f95dc22d8ef585f94 PB00IMG.ZIP

You do this with a program called "md5sum", although on Windows it goes by different names, depending on who released it ( e.g. CNET's download.com )

The reason for being so emphatic about this is that there have been 6 different files named PB00IMG.ZIP released by HTC, and three of them (all of the "leak" versions) will prevent you from installing root if you accidentally use them instead of the "real deal".

As to your question about should I install OTA-2.1 or not, it matters little. You might not have a choice. (If your replacement Eris is a refurb, it might have previously been owned by someone on this forum, and has a leak ROM on it - in which case you can't get root. Poetic Justice.)

The other thing you should probably do is to "self-report" your post to a moderator, and ask them very politely to move your post to the All Things Root (Eris) sub-forum.

Scroll all the way to the first post in the thread (yours), and click on the little exclamation point in the triangle on the left side of the screen next to your post (lower left) ( Be nice to them, they help keep this site going! )

You don't need to pray to anybody. Just download a md5sum program which will verify that the file you got is the correct one.

How do you know that? (It probably IS the root rom, so long as unlockr.com didn't screw up)

I provided a link to several in the post up above (scroll up, you might of missed it because I made two posts), although you usually check signatures of files before you use them, not afterward.

For completeness sake, I'll point out that Amon_RA's recovery file is named "recovery-RA-eris-v1.6.2.img"

and has an MD5 checksum of

e3932991f097993602af3c7a4b61a4f8 recovery-RA-eris-v1.6.2.img

You will need it shortly.
