Learning to do something as simple as editing PNGs in an apk has made me fall in love all over again with my Droid. :D:D:D And sorry for wasting your time, as there is no point to this thread. I am just proud of what I have done so far and I wanted to show it off. Hope y'all don't mind

I just want to say too that a lot of the stuff you see is borrowed from other people. I only take credit for some small things like color changes, background changes, and a few details you might not even notice. So thank you to a wonderful community that is so eager to share their knowledge and hard work! It wouldnt be near as much fun without you all.

Yep...Or Winrar (that's what I use). When you recompile the apk, you need to make sure you choose "no compression" (or on wirar it is "Store"). And you then need to use ADB or a root file manager to push the file back in...

Dj, if no one else PMs you, PM me and I'll try to walk you through it (I'm not that great, but I know what's going on and can tell you how). Someone really needs to write a guide on how to do it. I would, but I have to redesign my blog and prepare for E3...If there is not one up when I am done, I'll try to whip something up...

You can also use the app NinjaMorph to do this as well... you will need to have the .pngs on you sdcard... but you can do it all on your phone. I moded my LauncherPro to match The Punisher theme by JsinLegacy that I have. Also I moded it while it was a regular app then moved it to /system after I was done...

here's a screen shot (in the before one I had already changed the home button but not the icons):

Before is on the right and after is on the left (your right and left :p)

This is great too (along with MM). I got into this type of modding because I was having issues with MM and BBv1.0. I have now tried both methods, and they work, but now I am faster at using ADB/Winrar/Photoshop than I am using NM or MM...

@ cdogg, I haven't tried, but I believe you can also modify Market apps, but you have to resign them (I believe there is an app over at XDA that will sign an app for you...)

Also, Thanks! It would be awesome if you have time to do a small tutorial on this!

anybody have any luck resigning an APK? i would love to use the news and weather widget, but with the semi transparent or smoked glass background on my Incredible.

I have not yet tried, but :

Signing made easy.... [ Updated July/2009 ] - xda-developers

Note, this will not work if your SDK or the path that you place this in has any spaces in the dir name!
An Example of this is c:\users\Nikki and Stephen\sdk\tools
Try to put the SDK and the contents of the zip in a dir where the names are all together and not like the one above.

Ok, so I have made a batch file that will automate the entire process of setting up to use the signing tool made by JF. This batch file will set the CLASSPATH, set the PATH, install the registries, let you sign the files manually, and let you push/pull files to the phone.

In order to use this you should have downloaded the sdk already. Simply extract all of the files into the tools dir of your sdk, and run autosign.bat follow the instructions and go through the options one by one, starting with 1 working through 4. You can however, put the contents of this zip anywhere on your computer and it will work. It is just better to put them into the tools dir of your SDK. Especially for the consideration of future versions.

Enjoy,
Stericson
