If you ordered your phone with someones else's upgrade can you just activate it under your account or do you have to activate it under their number then switch it to yours and how do you do that with the incredible, i know that with regular phones you just take out the battery and put the mied# into Verizon's system?

Ita alot easier than it used to be. First you HAVE to activate it on the line your ordered it for. Then after activated turn it off and dial *228 option number 1 from the non activated phone you want to put back on the line, it will ask what number you are calling about just follow the prompts.

Then to get the Incredible on your line do the same thing, turn off your existing phone and dial *228 number 1 and follow the prompts.

I have always done it online but the night I got my Incredible the Verizon site or my internet was down for about 3 hours the whole time I was trying to activate and swap the ESN's.... finally a friend tip me off to dialing *228 right from the phone.

You can do it as Grandmaster says, I think. However, what I did was call Verizon when I got the phone. They told me to "not activate now" after I made that call and he swapped the upgrade while I was on the phone with them. Then I did the *228 option 1 and all was well.

They wouldnt do that for me.. they said it has to be activate on the upgrade line then do the switch...

I had to activate it under the number I ordered it under (thus completing the terms of the purchase agreement) and then switched it over to my line.

Thats correct. You should have to activate on the line your ordered it for to electronically accept the contract. Possible if talking to a rep on the phone you could verbally accept and then they will swap it for you BUT they used to charge $20 to have a rep ESN swap over the phone.

I didn't want to do that because the phone I was swapping with was not here, it was my daughter's phone. I didn't want to disconnect her and then have her do a *228. So the rep did it for me, no charge. I just had to hit 2 in order to 'activate later'. But I did have to accept the agreement first online. But I better check my next bill to make sure I didn't get that $20 charge!

Now I see what your saying, you accepted the terms and then chose the activate later option. Smooth :) And I'm sure they probly didn't charge you. Usually they notify you that there will be a $20 fee but If you tell them you tried yourself but it wouldnt go through online they will waive the fee.

Exactly. He told me to accept the terms, I had forgotten what it was. No mention of charges, he wanted to do it right the first time. Stayed on the line the whole time and 5 minutes later we had it good to go. I didn't even have to say I tried it myself, he didn't even want me to try. Probably knew I would **** it up.
