New to the forums. want to root my droid!

hi everyone!! I'm new to the site. i did perform the update to 2.1 manually, but that's about as extensive as my droid tinkering goes. i would really like to root my droid so i can start getting creative with it!! please help!! how can i do this? is there a place where i can go and get "no-brainer" step-by-step instructions start to finish???? my end result i'm hoping for will be to overclock my droid!!
