I wanted something minimal and small that I could also bang on the keys of the phone and it wouldnt move, I wanted it low profile because I have a colum shift in my truck, but also wanted it as close to me as possible.

I made this entirely out of aluminum and its screwed together, all screws are countersunk so they are flush on the back, the entire bracket weighs just over a half ounce, its actually .6 of one ounce

Then used automotive grade flocking and automotive grade flocking adhesive for inside the aluminum channel so it would wear well and not scratch, was going to glue some felt in there but that was just not going to be something durable and looked bad, so I stepped up and flocked it.

I used automotive grade 3M gray attachment tape so its has a very strong adhesion, but yet can be removed fairly easily with some heavy fishing line or piano wire or an old guitar string by using it like a saw, then simply cleaning it up with some solvent or goo gone, then put a new peice of tape on it and it's good for the next vehicle.

I painted the aluminum with an automotive grade satin black paint, the kind thats on the outside of car around the windows or on trim parts.

Don't want to say how much I have in making this, but yeah its alot, but trial and error and invention costs money I found out lol

Notice the framing of the rails that go up, they do not cover any of the screen ... I cut the front part of these long ways to be as minimal as I could, they are just wide enough that the phone is very secure, but wouldn't protrude into the screen at all ... the phone slides in an out of this easily, yet the channel length and the inner size makes it so it does not move when you need to dial a number or whatever you need to touch the screen for.

Is it strong? Yes I would say it is, this mount only has one peice of the 3M tape along the very bottom back ... check out the 5 pound sledge hammer sitting on it lol

Here's one that I made and used red flocking ... the back of the bottom rail is where the 3M attachment tape goes, basically right over the screws, but because they are flush, they have no effect on adhesion.

I had this one temporarily attached only because the red didn't look right in my truck, so I have the black one above in there for use now.
