Coming from having iphone for 3 years, so please forgive the dumb questions. Am I understanding that only way to close an app to free memory is an app like task killer? And if i turn therm off using this app, they will just turn back on of i press the program again? Is there any recommended memory setting that we should run at? So if start a game like black jack, if I go to task killer, uncheck it, it will load normally next time I play?

Thanks for any help

No that is not how Android works. You can just back out of an app (barring that isn't syncing) and it will be cached. Android will hold that there just so that it won't have to use as much processing power in case you want to reopen it. If, however, you don't use it for a while, it will close it for you. Or, another case would be you need that RAM for something else, Android will automatically relocate that RAM that was being used by that previously used app, and move it to the new app you're using.

You're fine without a task killer, and it is not recommended if you are not too familiar with Android and how exactly each app affects the phone and other apps. It will only cause you more problems/issues in the end.

I asked something similar the other day and someone posted this excellent link, so I figured I'd share it too.
Android Developers Blog: Multitasking the Android Way

Basically, as I see it, just let Android do it's thing. I guess if there's an app you know will be doing "stuff" in the background (like GPS program?) and killing the battery, you might kill that via a task manager, but otherwise, don't bother at all.

I also like system panel. That'll let you kill tasks as well as seeing what's open and using cpu/memory, but I wouldn't get caught up when you see an app you used 3 hours ago "active" and taking up 4MB.
