Ok, so this may seem like a stupid question to some, but I just can't figure it out. For the majority of us out there we work a 8 (or 9) to 5 job. Most of us also drive to work. With that said, if I have a car charger and a charger at work/home, why are battery issues that big of a deal? Obviously many people aren't in my situation and have different jobs/means of transportation, but still... With the amount of complaints I've seen on the battery, my thoughts are still, just plug it in while at work... Not trying to be an ass or anything, I guess I'm just wondering if I'm missing something. Thanks in advance for any help!

On a side note, and I know this is in the wrong place, but if anyone has any info on how to get the student discount from Sprint and doesn't mind sharing I'd greatly appreciate it! I know I can call Sprint, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Thanks!

well, the issue with charging at work is then you need a charger there. And im sure quite a few people wouldn't feel comfortable with leaving it on their desk at work (get stolen). And what about the weekends when your out all day/night? Or the night you forget to charge it...

I know what you mean. I just keep an iphone charging cord in my car and stick it in my back pocket when I walk inside. And on weekends and times that you forget to charge it I have a car charger and extra chargers lying around. I've owned an iPhone since launch day 2007 and am finally switching over to Android now that my AT&T contract is up and there is an Android phone that I feel can live up to the competition.

IMO the iPhone battery is shitty as well and since you can't easily change them out, I've made arrangements to be able to charge it anywhere I go. (Car charger, extra wall chargers/cables) For anyone with serious issues with the battery I would say that 95% of the time you can charge your phone if needed.

EDIT:mad:leastbay, can you provide link or sellers name? Thanks!

Seriously. They have these amazing devices called EXTENDED LIFE batteries, I have 2 for my Hero and can use it all day just fine. They also have these things called CAR CHARGERS that allow you to charge your battery in a car. If you can afford $299 for a new phone, I am guessing you can afford $40 for a bigger battery and $30 for a car charger. If you want a phone that will last all day with a small battery, you need to be looking at basic phones, not pocket computers

$30 for a car charger.

You paid $30 dollars for a car charger.
Been using this one for about 3 years now. Paid about 2 bucks for it.
*******WARNING*****WILL NOT WORK WITH PHONES THAT HAVE TO HAVE DATA CONNECTION TO CHARGE (IE IPHONE 3GS OR RAZR)********

About battery life. The only way you are going to know if it is going to last you all day is to try. I guarantee that it will not last me all day. No phone has, no phone will.

I always buy spare batteries for ALL my phones and cameras. At least unlike the IPhone you can easily pop in a new battery and your good to go again without a cord.

To play devils advocate here for a second.

Then buy an extended battery or two and be done with it, simple.

Not as simple as having peace of mind that my phone will last me two-three days of normal use without ever plugging it in or swapping batteries. (whatever normal use is for you)
Americans want convenience...HAVING to charge your phone everyday and not forgetting because then you'll be screwed the next day if you don't have a charger around isn't convenient.

Remember, devils advocate.

you sir are an _ _ _ _ _ (fill it in)

since the couple months i have been here this takes the cake as one of the dumbest threads i have ever seen. (even counting the 100 post about preordering at BB and RS, and about the ten dollar tax) its a MOBILE phone. dont wanna be tied to a cord all the time. plus some of us arent always near a power outlet. i go to school then have about a 20 mins drive in a car to work. so i dont think im gonna get much of a charge in 20 mins. dont get me wrong i dont expect it to last 2 days but to last atleast 10-12 hours is not asking to much to get through a day.

Its finally here and I knew it from the beginning. I knew the battery life on WiMAX would be horrendously low. Its all because the the frequency WiMAX uses. Compared to the new LTE 700mhz networks coming out WiMAX with its 2.5ghz is short range and requires the devices to have a more powerful transmitters. Not only that 2.5ghz does not penetrate buildings well compared to lower frequencies like 700-800mhz which further demands more powerful transmitter having to be built into the device.

It no surprise battery life is shockingly low with WiMAX enabled. I really dont see any benefit with WiMAX on mobile phone. The slight increase in connection speed is NOT worth the massive battery drain IMO. 3G speeds are still plenty and wont have you running to your charger three times a day.

...?

Question, do you have an Evo yet? I'm going to guess no, in which case, all you are doing is talking out of York ass. Have you actually paid attention to those of us with Evo's, who have been posting battery usage reports? Many of us have had perfectly acceptable battery drain, both with and without WiMax enable. I run mine with WiMax disabled & have acceptable drain given how I use the phone.

If you have no firsthand knowledge, then why are you posting useless crap?

WiMax is here, LTE isn't. By the time LTE phones come out it will be time to replace the EVO. So for now, why not enjoy the speed of WiMax.

As far as battery drain, it's simple. Don't walk around with 4G running. Why would you? Cut 4G on with the little toggle switch when you need it. Without 4G running the battery last just as long as any smartphone battery. I have had my EVO for over a week and the battery is better than my previous Palm Pre or my iPhone 3GS.

I would like the record to reflect that I do believe the OP to be a troll based on his post history and the meat to his posts, but my previous comment still stands.

Hm...... I thought it was rather informative and makes perfect sense.

Thanks for posting.

Shadrap my thoughts exactly. By the time LTE and even Wimax matures it will be a few years, so for the mean time enjoy the EVO.... is there really a benefit to use 3g to 4g speeds right now versus wi fi? No, its just a perk to get a killer phone like Evo. In two years we'll all be switching to LTE, imagine 12-18 months from now the kinds of phones that will be out.

Just get the device and see how long the battery lasts. Common sense for a big sweet LCD screen, 3G or 4G and if many apps open pulling data (some also use gps), the battery will not last all day- for ANY device with similar set up. A lot to ask from a 1500mah battery ;)

Just a few days to get a better population sample for opinion, rather than bias due to blind fanboys from any camp (if any here, of course). Did the TechCrunch overview start all this?

BTW, that big sweet screen is probably blinding a few of you all to it's faults (all devices seem to have them)- Beauty blinds ;)

This is my problem with this issue. People write that they don't have the time or place to charge their cell phones. I ask this to this people, how is this possible? Do these people sleep on the streets? Are these people homeless? I refuse to believe that people go to sleep and dont charge their phones. Even if they are not home the entire day, when it's time to go to bed, YOU NEED TO CHARGE PHONE. I laugh at these people complaining about battery life for a SMARTPHONE. It's not a phone anymore, it's a smartphone. You have a computer, camera, video games, radio, TV, ALL IN ONE DEVICE, and people want to use it non-stop for 15 hours and still have 60% left, never charge it, use again the next day for 15 hours and have 30% left, never charge it, and use it again for 15 hours and then if they somehow, some way out of a miracle they think about charging phone and go on with their lives.

I have a Palm Pre. My wife and I went to Disney World with it. I used the internet to pass the time while we were standing in lengthy rides, or on the shuttle buses, or waiting for buses. I also wanted to take quick photos and a few videos with it. I NEVER made it a full day with it. There aren't a lot of places to charge it while in the parks, nor did we want to take time away from enjoying ourselves to charge a phone.

Why didn't we just use a regular camera? We had one of those too, but we occasionally wanted to take a picture or video to upload to facebook.

After I spent $199 on the phone, money on 2 touchstones ($60 each), car chargers, apps, then to have to buy extra batteries as well? It gets freakin' expensive.

That's why *I* care about battery life.
