Waiting in line?

I am going to be waiting in line for the evo on Friday. I was wondering what time you all are getting there that are waiting for it. I'm not sure how many my sprint store is getting or even how popular this phone is even going to be on release day.

Anyone baby any ideas on this? I was thinking of getting out there at 6 or 6:30 in the morning.

All I can say is I went into my local corp store last week, had a great conversation with the guy there. I asked him what his gut is.

He did say from the level of foot traffic and questions he has been getting, he thinks this will be bigger than Pre last year, He also said that even wiuth the pre last year, no ione at HIS store was camping out. So we both figured an hour or so early before they open an hour early was sufficient. And he was kind enough to remind me there was a Starbucks next door. :)

So for me, about 7 AM, maybe earlier if I am too excited.

EDIT. I think the OP is like me and did not pre-order (I am giving a Hero back so must work through Sprint). Obviously, pre orders a completely different thing.

I am snagging my EVO from the Sprint store, which is opening at 8 am. I was told they'd have a bit of a line, so I think I'll leave my house at 6, go snag a chai to keep me warm, and get there about 6:30 with a camp chair.

I never camp out for stuff, so I don't know if that's to early, but I am taking that day off, so either way it's fine.

I live in a smaller city so there probably wont be too many people. I am just right out side of Sacramento so maybe some of those people will be coming over to get the phone if it runs out but that wont be till later in the day.

I am thinking of just going there at 6 or 6:30 so I can guarantee myself that I will get a phone because I didnt pre order at bestbuy early enough to get it on that day.

Should be fun though! I dont mind waiting outside for an hour or so.

I like in Roanoke Virginia, not a very big city so hopefully I won't have any trouble finding one on friday.

If they are out, I'm sure it won't take more than a few days to a week to get more in.

hmmm, might want to ask the hordes of people still waiting for HTC Incredibles to trickle in.

Nah, just kidding. The limited availability for the Incredible is supposedly due to the AMOLED display being limited which shouldn't be an issue for the Evo.

Yea I don't think the EVO will have that issue, the screen is a big hassle for the incredible.

I could be wrong tho, I don't think sprint takes pre-orders so I cant really say until Friday.

I am a noobie to sprint. How were previous phone lauches? Did people fail to go home with a new phone if they didn't show up early?

Does anyone have knowledge of what happened with the Incredible release? Could people get one first few days if they wanted one?

Lines will probably depend on your location. If you live in a large city there are probably going to be lines. Smaller cities and towns..probably not much of a line. Also depends on how many stores that are selling Evo are in your area. If you only have a Sprint store in your area and no BB or RS there are probably going to be at least some kind of line.

As to the Incredible..I got mine a couple days after it was released. I needed two of them and the dealer I went to just got 2 in the morning I showed up. That was a rare case and only because I live in a small town.

From what I can tell though the EVOs are going to be much more available than the Incredible. The Incredible had shortages due to parts not being available for the screen which is different from Evo's screen. So the evo won't suffer from that problem.

Honestly I would show up at Sprint on release morning as early as you can and try there. If no luck there then try another sprint store. If you still can't get one, hit Radio Shack, and then Best Buy. I have all 3 stores within 5 minutes of each other..hopefully you do too.

I really would find it hard to believe that RS or BB wouldn't have at least a couple of preorder cancellations. You might be able to get your hands on one of those.

Hah I just called RS and they are out of pre-orders.

He did tell me full retail price was 600$ , I'm not sure where the 450$ from sprint came from and 500$ from RS but I'm hearing 600$ at Best Buy and Radio Shack now...prolly be 600$ at Sprint too I would guess =(

RadioShack will be charging $499.99 out of contract: http://radioshackwireless.com/templ...geid=7831&refcode1=RSK_4444_000_SITESEARCHEVO

An email from Sprint said they'll be charging $449.99

Best Buy is the only place that will be charging $599.99

Yea I just got off the phone with sprint and he confirmed the 450$ price.

**Edit** thanks for the RS link, I swear they told me 600$ over the phone tho lol~

So just ignore my above post, I'm gonna take off work Friday and try for the sprint one.

I've stopped by two RS stores and spoke with the managers asking about how many pre orders and what they expect. Both were pretty vague about numbers, but both said they would be posting the number of NON pre ordered phones available on the door prior to opening so if they only had 10 phones, the people 11 and beyond in line wouldn't have to waste their time to find out. Haven't decided if I am going to bother trying in the AM or just wait till Sat and see what happens. I keep thinking I may want to wait to hear/watch the flood of reviews to see just how good the 4G is in the KC area and exactly what the battery and Micro SD card situation is. I have zero issues with my current iPhone hardware wise and may just sit back a few days to see what issues arise, if any. I hope it goes smooth and the reviews that were reporting poor battery and some SD issues turn out to be overstated biased opinions.

Either way good luck to those that decide to wait in line.

Last time I waited in a line was for Zelda on the Nintendo 64. lol Hopefully there's no line at RS

LOL I remember my mom complaining about the fight she went through to get that game for me that Christmas. Haha!

I preordered my phone at BB so I'll be working all day then go pick it up after work. Friday truly will be the LONGEST day of work ever. Just hopefully my BB Tour will hold out long enough (it's incredibly jealous of me searching for HTC Evo information on it daily).
