Help Another one bites the dust....

RIP HTC Droid Incredible. I barely knew you! :( I dropped it from waist high today and the screen shattered. Called Assurion for a replacement and they don't have any. They will call me when they have one available. So now I'm back on the Omnia since I gave my Eris to my daughter, and she was not one bit interested in giving it back. :(

Edit: I don't know how I ever used the Omnia before! I HATE it!

What type of surface did you drop it on?

I just want to know how terrified I need to be when I'm holding mine...

Concrete sidewalk. And it was wearing the High Gloss Silicone case. It landed face down flat and the moment I hear the CRACK I knew it was toast before even picking it up to see. It was quite a loud sound.

Assurian says they may have some in on Wednesday.

I'm an idiot, I thought ashorty was the OP  (still sorry to hear about your mishap).

That sucks! Very sorry to hear that. I was considering a case like that, if I was going to get anything (I'm not a fan of cases). I guess I need to do something, either a case or insurance, it's too expensive to not be able to drop..

It's more fragile than I thought apparently. On the bright side, I did have a scratch on the screen that was annoying me very much! Now that scratch no longer annoys me! LOL I'm a heavy texter, and reverting to WINMO after having my texting and facebook and EVERYTHING integrated is like having a limb removed. Will wrap the new one in bubble wrap and cut a hole in a big piece of foam to carry it around in...ROFL....

Oh well...it's life. It's just a phone (I keep repeating to myself...over and over)

I almost threw mine across the garage today when I sliced my knee open on the edge of a license plate. My arm slung forward and my hand started to open and my life flashed before my eyes. Luckily, my hand had a mind of it's own, and clamped shut again. Don't care about my knee - I'm self-healing.

LOL that last line made me laugh! You know you're an addict when you treat your phone better than your own body. You also know you're an addict when you completely agree with that line of thinking (as I do) - I mean a screen really can't heal itself, and your knee totally can. Sorry about the knee, though! Maybe you can contact this developer and see if he'll make an Android app: Video: Pocket Pain Doctor is the worst iPhone app. Ever. -- Engadget (the video seems to have been taken down, it's a shame - it was hilarious)

LOL well your replacement will be scratch free! I'm sorry to hear about having to step down to winmo, that's just plain torture! I like your bubble wrap case idea. Super durable. Super cheap. hahaha

Man listen to this.

Many years ago I was riding my bike to my friend's house for some good ol Goldeneye. I was carrying my N64 controller in one hand, and racing at break neck speeds to get there. I saw something interesting in the road, and decided to stop and look at it. I slammed on brakes (too hard in fact) and I went flying over the handle bars!

Like you, my life flashed before my eyes! And suddenly it's as if I entered slow motion. I had time to thoroughly think about the fact that I could catch myself with my hands and drop the controller, or catch myself with one hand and one elbow and protect the controller.

One bloody hand and elbow later, I had a perfectly fine N64 controller.

(In retrospect, though we used the same sound logic... mine was rather pointless considering the cost of an N64 controller compared to an Incredible)

haha! Goldeneye was the best game of all time. I could probably still find my way through those air ducts!

Hey controllers were still pretty pricey, not $600, but pretty expensive - especially for a kid!

These pictures make me nervous.

I''m rough on phones....always have been, mostly because I drop things a lot. I wouldn't go without insurance! I'd rather pay the $6 a month and get a new phone when I do something stupid than have to shell out full price for one. I don't think a different case would have helped much, it was just a bad landing.

Man, the fact that you had the same case on there as I do really worries me. I'm very careful with my electronics, but all phones inevitably take a couple falls. I love the Incredible, but it certainly does not seem to have been built strongly enough. I've dropped my iPod Touch countless times from all heights and on all surfaces, and it's never had any negative effect.

Ouch! If you are going back to the Omnia try out SPB Mobile Shell. Turns the Omnia into something you can actually use.

I have a registered version of Mobile Shell. I used WinMO phones for years until my wife got an Eris. I very shortly thereafter got me one. When the Inc came out I had the opportunity to get it for $99 so I jumped on it and gave the Eris to my daughter. So I've began using using an Android in Feb. Prior to that I used WinMo phones since HTC introduced their first one years back. I was HAPPY as a WinMo user...until I met the Eris. LOL Now I can't believe I actually used those phones! It's only been a few hours and I miss my Inc terribly! Now if I could just convince my kid I need the Eris back....ROFL

I had an Omnia.. Used it for about 45 days before I could not take it anymore. But good thing about being the adult is you pay the bill! Just swap that phone in her sleep if you can find it in you... if i woke up to an Omnia I might be devastated for life.

sorry for your terrible loss.
But since it did happen...
is it still usable? as in does it power up?
hard to tell from pic, but is it outside surface glass broke
or inner led screen?
I've seen a few more like yours and it seems they all hit flat "belly-buster" style.

again sorry, I to am coming from an omnia.

It is still totally usable. It will pwoer up and function correctly. Even in person it is hard to tell exactly what shattered. It's quite rough and jagged to the touch and CAN cut so I lean toward it being an outerlayer of glass. Another reason I shy away from it being the inner LED layer is becuase of the clarity and presice movements capable on the screen (assuming you avoid slivers of glass).

Aye Aye Aye bellybuster is what she did. Right out of my hands in a 10.0 dive straight out in an ark toward the parking lot. In my hast I disrupted it's elegant flight attempting to salvage it, but alas I was too slow. It hit ground hard, flat full of flight. It landed hard, face down with a resounding POPPPPP and my heart sunk into Dante's despairing pits of destruction. The die was cast, the piper played....the end had come.

Edit; who opened the Irish up??
