eieio is right, sprint HAS the right to charge whatever they like, its a private company, BUT at the same time you have the right not to use their products, thats your choice as a consumer. This entitlement mentality that people have now a days need to go. If you cant afford to pay to play, then find something that fits your budget better. If enough people dont get the phone b/c of the extra $10/ month fee then that will show sprint that made a wrong choice to charge it and will prob drop it. thats the way it works, hurt them in their $ flow and they have to change things to get that $ flow back. (but anyone who has run their own biz already knows this)

True. People ALSO have the right to question companies, as he has done. It's actually best that he voices his concerns. If they weren't heard, Sprint wouldn't know that people are dissatisfied w/ the $10 fee. If everyone chose not to get the phone and not even mention the $10 fee, they might link it to another factor--perhaps the screen is too small ;)?

That is a nice web site. Such passion from the creator over the $10.
I agree that its pretty crappy to charge me more money every month to have my EVO connect at the same speed that my hero connects at. I dont see how my data experience will be any richer if i am still getting 600kbs on a bigger screen.

You know i do actually think i will use more data though. I think the faster processor will make web sites load faster and that will make me more likely to use the web on the phone. Also the 4.3 inch screen will make web viewing more desirable. It may make my 7 year old enjoy sprint tv even more also. So even though i think the fee is crap i do think i will use more data with this phone.

Are people as passionate about how at&t charges iphone users 30 per month for 3g access when many people dont have 3G? I dont really remember hearing as much about this outrage. The verizon maps commercials really shed light on at&t's 3g coverage in the US. Imagine maying 30 per month for 3g and you are stuck on the Edge network.....ouch.

Just to clarify this... AT&T does NOT charge you extra to go from a smartphone to an iPhone. They only charge you extra if you are coming from a dumbphone. So if you have a Touch Pro 2 (Tilt 2 on AT&T) and go to an iPhone, your bill does not go up.

On Sprint, if you go from a Touch Pro 2 to an Evo, you get hit with a mandatory (and unexplainable) $10 per Evo fee.

Dan Hesse never said that it would be free.. This has been repeated countless times and is incorrect..

It is simply a matter of interpretation of what he said.. For some reason some people heard that 4g-Wimax was going to be free and I heard differently..

Obviously I heard correctly because its costing us 10 bucks more a month or Dan Hesse is a liar..

Either way it is 10 dollars more a month..

Who the hell introduces a newer and faster service that no one else provides for FREE??

Wrong. Dan Hesse clearly says it will be free in this video:
YouTube - Dan Hesse saying 4G is free. Now it's $10 a month! http://explainthefee.comhttp://explainthefee.com

There is no debating that.

Even with the $10 fee, ED450 is the cheapest option for a smartphone plan with unlimited text and data. I personally don't care one bit if Sprint can adequately explain the fee. It's still the best value, and that's all that matters.

Uh, no it isn't. My current Sprint ED plan smartphone plan is cheaper. For customers coming form other carriers, yeah, it is probably a good deal.

For the people that stuck with Sprint when everyone else was jumping ship, we're getting screwed.

sprint cant say the $10 is for 4g because they already said there will be no extra charge for 4g

sprint cant say the $10 is for 4g rollout because they would be obligated to keep rolling out 4g as long as the $10 charge remains (not to mention be open to flak if they arent doing it up to the desired level of the consumer)

i completely agree the way they are handling it is completely shady and transparent. i understand why they are candy coating it though, and i'm going to have my evo either way.

I'm with Sprint and I'll be paying about the same price as I am now, but with more benefits when I get the EVO.

You mean ED without the $10 fee is cheaper than ED with the $10 fee? Wow. Blew my mind. Clearly what I meant was that you cannot get a top of the line phone for cheaper than the EVO. DI and iPhone are more expensive. Only thing that's cheaper is a Nexus One on TMo Even More Plus but that has a much higher up front cost.

That website is dumb. Don't get an EVO if you don't want to pay the extra money. Don't get a BMW if you don't want to pay the extra money. Do you force the BMW dealer to explain to you why you have to pay more for a BMW than a Hyuindai? No, so stfu. Oh and btw, $45 here I come:

Single Plan
Everything Data - 450 Anytime Minutes Included $69.99
Employee Discount Sprint 25% -$17.50
$20 Service Credit -$19.91

Sprint Surcharges $2.11
Show Details And Explanation of Charges
Government Fees & Taxes $0.33
Show Details And Explanation of Charges

Total Due by June 13 $35.16

Please explain how you added a $10 fee and ended up paying the same as you are now. Did they cancel the fee for you or something? If they didn't, then I don't see how you can add a fee and end up paying the same (unless you downgrade your plan).

It's funny how you're complaining about the others when you have a 25% discount, not to mention a $20 service credit.

I'd love to see you be as complacent and happy without those.

It's almost like a rich kid telling the poorer kids to stop complaining because they can't eat steaks, yet you have a chef personally cook you some =P.

T-Mo also has the HD2, with cheaper plans. And they will soon have the Galaxy S, with cheaper plans.

Guys its all about $. sprint is charging the fee to line thier pockets more. Its pretty simple. They have an opportunity to get away with it and they are running with it. The fee is to make more $ from thier customers..period.

Show me a corporation that ISN'T trying to line their pockets and I'll show you a charity

.....hell, even charities line their pockets
