Help Exchange sync w/HTC Mail Client

Is there any way to automatically sync multiple mail folders when the account is set up as exchange in HTC Mail?

Seems as if when I sync, only my inbox mail is downloaded. Can I specify other server folders that I want syncd too?

The only way that I seem to be able to do it is by going into each folder and refreshing manually.

I thought I saw somewhere that I did this before, but I can't find it now and I have been doing so much with the new phone, I might have something crossed.

Not sure about the HTC email app, but Touchdown does it just fine. But I'm sure you don't want to pay the $20 so perhaps someone else can shed some light. Just giving it a bump, curious myself.

I can look at Touchdown and K9 and figured that's an option, but still like to see if stock can do it too......

I do not know about auto sync, but I just opened my folders on HTC Mail and it loaded about 65 emails within seconds. I have about 15 folders, under my mail account, set to sync back 30 days. There is an option for all as well as size. Hope this helps.

I do not see that it does it automatically. I just moved an email on my PC to a folder. Went to HTC, went into folders, and it refreshed when I opened. Do not see that it is automatic.

Is this because you have a rule set to put emails to a folder?

Turn refresh mail when you open a folder back on and email will show in all folders in couple seconds of opening the folder.

Yes, I see that, but it'll only tell me of new mail in subfolders once I enter the subfolders.

And yes, I do have server side email filtering that automatically puts some new mail in folders other than inbox.

Even assuming I turn on auto sync, I still won't get new mail notifications for folders other than my inbox, will I?

I do not know, do you? I mean if you have this setup already will it notify you of an email that was ruled to a sub folder?

It'd be perfect if HTC Mail let me select which folders to auto sync and then I get notified of new mail that comes into any of those folders.

You have server side rules or rules within Outlook?

Yes, I have server side rules in outlook, some of which forward incoming mail to different folders than the inbox.

Sounds like, the HTC mail program only has the ability to look into the inbox for new mail automatically, right?

I might have to give Touchdown a try at some point.

That is not a server side rule, but a client side rule. HTC mail gets your mail before Outlook in my experience, and thus will not show up in the folder that your rules put it into. I know that TD will sync all folders below the root if you so choose. It allows you to sync whatever you want.

I don't think that's correct. The Outlook rules are on the server. As soon as the email hits the sever, the rule is applied and the emails are filed accordingly. There's no way a mail client will see the email before the rules are applied.

There is a way that the mail client will see the mail before a rule fires. That is if the rule is client side and you are not logged into an Outlook client.

But it looks like we are both correct to a certain degree.

Ok you should know. Last article, just so you can make it 110% sure.

After you configure one or more client-only message rules in Outlook, other message rules do not take effect

As for syncing folders, as I said before, I use TD exclusively so I don't know. But if you can't get it to work then I suppose it doesn't.

My rules are server side. They process while outlook is closed. 1000% sure.

I do think that this and the other features of it are enough to warrant the $20 upgrade. It seems to handle exchange via ActiveSync very well, at least so far.

HTC sync will not sync with all my exchange folders. It syncs with Inbox and about 5 others, but not all. I'm using TD, but would prefer the HTC sync. Hoping this is fixed in 2.2!!

Lost this thread on the "move". Glad you got it working with TD. I too found the $20 well worth the investment. It simply works as designed.

No problem. I really love Touchdown. A million times better than the HTC mail app for connecting to an Exchange server.

While I'm here, I did have one quick question about TD.

Can I default the sending of the signature to off and only toggle it on when I want to? Seems like it's defaulted to on, with no option to change it.

They should also consider an option to only send it when creating a new message and not when replying/forwarding automatically.

I just removed the signature entirely. Tools > advanced > signature line. I just put in "sent from my phone" and leave it at that. On one account I don't even have that, none of anyone's business. ;-)
