Help Transfer files to new MicroSD Card?

With the problems I've been hearing about the SD card that's included with the EVO, I've been in a quandary over what to do:

I have an 8GB Class 6 MicroSD Card that I believe trumps the included Class 2 card that comes with the EVO, so I expect I will move everything over to that card....which begs the following - I've copied over all the photos, videos, documents, and music from my card to my PC. Should I just reformat the SD card in the device, and then copy these files over? Could I just use the SD card as I have it currently set up (I have it in my Hero at this point, running 2.1). Or should I copy the contents of the new card to my PC, add the files from my old card to that, reformat my Class 6 card, and then copy the files from the PC to this card?

Decisions, decisions...at least it gives me something to think about until Friday!

If you feel you really need that class 6, put it into the EVO, format it on the EVO, copy everything from the PC to the EVO (at least that's what I'd do)

If you're concerned about cluster size causing performance problems, then just format the microSD card on your PC and choose the largest cluster size, copy all the data to the card then pop it in your phone.

There's probably 10 different ways to go about this, all are a matter or preference.

That's why I'm going to format mine while it's in the phone. Hopefully it creates the appropriate folders.

But I won't know until Friday

With my Hero I just put them both on my computer at the same time, copied the included SD card over to my 8Gig card and put it back in the phone with no issues. I will prob end up doing this with the EVO.

I would strongly recommend jumping over to sdcard.org and grabbing their SD Formatter application.

When you pick up the Evo, be sure to copy off the HTC Sync software that comes with the phone (there may be other files on there, copy them off at your discretion).

Toss in your replacement SD card, then use the SD Formatter app to do a FULL format of the card (not Quick). This could take upwards to 30 minutes, so go make yourself a sandwich.

When you have a fresh card, Android OS will automatically create any new folders it needs (like /sdcard/DCIM/ for photos) when you first use the applicable application (like taking a picture with the camera).
