Will Current Sprint Customers pay more at BB?

Now that I got your attention, i have heard that BB will charge more than the 199 price for the EVO if you are a current sprint subscriber. The way it was put to me is that the 199 is for new activations only, even if you are upgrade eligible there will be a $50.00 upcharge. Can anyone confirm or disprove this? I am upgrade eligible from being sprint premier and have pre-ordered the EVO already, however if there is an upcharge I will be thinking twice on picking it up early. I would probably wait until the holidays for a price drop, or the next newest and greatest phone.

I would think that sprint would not do this at there stores so is this a BB only upcharge or is this a total fabrication that I was told.

Any input would be appreciated, I have waited this long and would be severely upset if this is true.

It's totally fabricated. My good friend is a manager @ BB here in charlotte.

For the record, at least at the BB behind my house, if you have looked they list 3 prices for the cell phones new customer price, upgrade price and contract free price. Since they don't have a display for the evo there I was simply wondering if anyone else knew of this, but I am unsure why I am arguing with a troll so I will stop now.

I preordered mine with 50 down and I specifically asked what i needed to bring and the rep said the phone was going to be 199.99... so doing the math thats 150 plus tax. I am out of contract and I held onto my upgrade when I learned of this device... i weathered through a broken palm pre and numerous emails offering me incentives to renew but I am happy to get the evo. I went with bb because the dont deal with rebates and sprint can never seem to get it right when it comes to getting me mines.. have fun when you get it!

Yea for me, I was told to buy a 50.00 best buy gift card as the $50 down, and use that gift card with the purchase, making it really 150.00 dollars when I buy the phone. The $50 is just to ensure you buy the phone after pre-ordering it. They do that with games too, but its $5 and not $50. Its a gift card though, so really, if you end up not buy the phone, you can use it for anything else in BB :D

BB told me straight out this weekend that I was eligible to get the phone, as an upgrade, at $199 (based off my account), so if they policy is the same at all the BB's, not sure where or why this is being debated.

One thing that slightly concerned me was that the BB store I went to (closer to my house) is not the same one I pre-ordered from and when I inquired about the gift card I received indicating I was charged for tax, they told me that they don't charge tax for any gift cards (at this particular store I was at). I asked them what I should do, since the gift card I was given for the pre-order was only for $50, but I was charged tax.

Simple answer was exactly what I thought. They said, just make sure they apply the gift card value prior to charging tax (e.g. tax should be charged to $149 or if the store I pre-ordered out goes by Cali rules, I'll be charged tax off $499 since 549 is the retail value BB is selling for, I believe). They assured me that there shouldn't be any problems with the other best buy figuring out how to get the tax price right, but just to be sure to have my receipt to show them that the pre-order was done incorrectly.

How are you going to pay tax off $499 when you say the phone will retail 549.99 (not confirmed). You will pay tax on whatever the full retail price is at Best Buy.

I highly doubt itll be 549.99 retail at Best Buy when the Samsung Moment is 629.99 and the HTC Hero is 599.99 off contract at Best Buy, they'r notorious for jacking phone prices waaaay up compared to any other store at the off-contract price.

LOL... I got charged tax on my pre-order gift card, so they BETTER take off that $50 from the full retail price, rather than taxing prior. No way I'm allowing them to charge me double tax.

I don't know if that's the full retail price. I was primarily using that as an example from what other people had said.

And there's a Cali law that in essence says the retail location can charge customers tax on full retail price for a cell phone (regardless of the "special upgrade" price), at their discretion. I'm prepared for either scenario.

Yep, he'll be paying about $60 bucks taxes at BB. He ought to go to a Sprint store, where he'd save a little more than $20. I pre-ordered at a RS...one of the good things about going to UofO is there's no sales tax in Oregon!

You were supposed to go and get that fixed. It was a glitch in their system. I have read others received a 25 gift card in the mail. Call Best Buy Corp.

I spoke with another BB mobile this weekend and they said that there was no need for me to do that, but hey if I can get a $25 gift card, that's fine with me. Thanks for the tip. I didn't bother with it, since I just decided to make sure they didn't charge me extra tax when I close up the pre-order and get my actual EVO.

OP should be banned. And please, please OP, don't buy an Evo because you don't deserve one for creating blatant bait and switch thread titles.

GTFO

not sure how this bait and switch, I heard that there was the potential to cost more even on upgrade, I was simply trying to clarify if anyone else had heard this or not and it appeared that someone else on another forum had heard the same thing, so while it wasn't corroborated by that it certainly gave credence to my original post and title that current sprint customers may pay more at BB. After reading the replies I feel that what I have heard was just a rumor.

So if you don't like the fact that I am trying to get answers then you can STFU and crawl back under the bridge you came from. Damn these trolls that constantly need fed.
