Hi,

From the moment I received my HTC Hero from orange several weeks ago I noticed the when I press the back arrow button on the bottom right of the phone its clicks and creaks, dont think its the button itself but its the plastic battery case that makes the sound.

Does anyone else have this problem?

1. Yes. This issue started about a week and half after receiving my Sprint HTC Hero. Not thrilled about the button creaking sound but now it matches the sound of the stairs in my old house. It's very possible this is just a break in period creak and will eventually go away. Will try and remember to post a follow-up in a month or two.

I just received my Sprint HTC Hero two days ago. I have the same creaking problem you mention. I went into two different Sprint stores and they assured me it was "normal." One person suggested it required break in time. The ones I have tried in the store did not make this noise and felt solid. I'm glad to know others have this problem, but it doesn't seem like this is normal.

Update - well, as I sort of expected the Home and Menu buttons have actually stopped creaking. BTW, Sprint HTC Hero here.
I'm still getting a bit from the dedicated Search button and the Back Button. My hopes are that they will fall in line with the others. Will update next week or some time in the near future.

I have the same, very annoying creaking on my 5 day old Sprint HTC Hero. I took in into a Sprint store to ask about it and they told me there was nothing they could do. I asked the young girl if it would be acceptable to here if it were her phone and she said "just learn to live with it". Every employee in the store was snotty and irritable. BTW, my sone has had the HERO for a month now and no problems at all. All buttons, have a distinct click with no creaking.

I have had my Sprint Hero for about a month now, and the creaky back button is about the same, maybe a little better. It's not the kind of thing you get used to. I will copy below what an HTC tech wrote to me regarding the creaky noise. Looking back, I wish I would have simply gone into a Sprint store and exchanged it since I had just received it. As I mentioned, I visited a few different Sprint stores and got different reactions. You may want to go to a different store and attempt to swap it out.

From HTC:
I understand how important it is for your device to feel just right. Like most electronic devices, not all devices feel the same. Some have a tighter feel; others may have the creak you have described. It is not normal to the point that every device has this sound, but I do not believe it to be that abnormal. Not being able to actually experience the creak that you are experiencing makes it difficult for me to judge. However, I do feel that if you have misgivings about the way the device feels, they should be addressed. If you have just received it, Sprint should be able to swap it out for you if it does not feel right. If they cannot do so, we do have a repair department that would be able to assist you. However, I would not send it in unless it were entirely necessary, as it may be much ado about nothing. If the button does not function properly or seems to deteriorate, you may need to seek repair. Otherwise, the device should be fine.
