Best Buy told me I cant cancel and then immediately sign up if Im already with Sprint

you can't do that within i think 90 days. it's a sprint policy so you can't scam your way to a cheaper phone like your trying to do... companies have to protect their funds they can't just have people using loop holes so they don't have to pay sprint what they should

I don't understand?

That's partially what the ETF is for. He'll have to pay his ETF to cancel anyway?

I don't see why Sprint wouldn't allow it. Try calling retentions and talk to them about it.

Interesting.. I talked to sprint twice regarding this issue... they know full well what I am doing and NOT ONE person there told me I had to wait 90 days to add another line... I canceled one of my lines in May and it is set to defunct on June 3rd. I called again this morning (cancellations) to confirm it was still set to be gone on June 3rd.

He asked me why I was canceling it and I told him bluntly. The only thing he tried to get me to do was keep the number and have them bump the $75.00 upgrade... I said no thanks that it was my daughters line that I was canceling so I WANTED a new number.

They were OK with it and never once said I couldn't add it on the 4th -which is when they knew I was going to.

it can be done. i have done it twice. heres what you do

add a new line for $10-$20 bucks a month (depends on if your on family plan already or not) get the evo on the new line for $200 bucks. then once you have the evo on the new line move the evo over to your old line and your old phone to the new line(can be done via online, over the phone, or in a sprint store. BB and RS wont do it). then wait 30 days. once your 30 days is up cancel the new line and pay the $200 ETF. I did this last year for the Pre and also for the Touch Pro 2. no problems. just make sure you wait the 30 days first or else they wont let you do it.

They wouldn't allow it because the discounted price is for NEW customers or NEW lines not just because you cancel service and restart it whether you pay an ETF or not. They use your Social Sec # as a guide so no matter how you try to sneak around it it won't work unless you have a wife, aunt, uncle, mommy or daddy with a different SSN to sign up for you. ALL the carriers are the same. When I wanted my iPhone I canceled my account and had my wife sign up under her SSN with no problem.

actually just spoke with sprint... canceling a line and readding is not a big deal to them. The problem is in the system - it takes 45 days to drop out of the system so until then it makes them reactive that line of service.

So even though I canceled my 3rd line - it won't be out of the system for 45 days. However, I had a REALLY good rep right now that was higher up the chain that understood my plight and where I was coming from... I shall be happy on the 4th ;)

Where is there a $10 (or $20 family line for Sprint? I'm a "new subsciber" and am getting an EVO and I wanted my wife to get a simple plain phone and she would have to pay their regular lowest voice only plan rate ($35?). I was told they don't have a family add-on like VZ or AT&T and I haven't found one online. There is an "everything data family" plan but that's big bucks for 2 lines. Is it really worth it for all the aggravation? Just buy the friggin' phone for $450.

Pardon my ignorance but if you are going to go through all that hasell then expense just but the phone out right. 200 for the phone and 200 etf is the 400 you would have paid just to buy the phone. am i wrong pr am i missing something here?

How much money are you actually saving?

$199 (for Evo) + $20 (for new line) + $199 (ETF) = $420

for a $450 phone?
You have to wait for the rebate from Sprint to bring donw the price to $199 as they are the only ones selling it for $450. So out of pocket its actually

$299 (for Evo) + $20 (for new line) + $199 (ETF) = $520

Go to RS and no rebate so its a better route this way ;)

this solution is NOT for new customers. if your a new customer just sign a contract and buy the damn phone for $200 bucks. this plan is for people that dont wanna pay best buy 600 bucks or radio shack 500 bucks and are still under contract.

My unanswered question was: How do you get a family line for an extra "$10 or $20 bucks?" There is no such plan.

The only 2 options that were told to me are the "family" version of the EVERYTHING DATA plan which is $40-$50 more or a separate extra line without data for $35 voice only. Sprint has no $10 (or $20) basic add-on family plan like VZ and ATT do. If they do I would like to have it so I can get a 2nd line for my wife with a plain phone while I have the EVO. She has no need for text or data.
