Help Gmail won't open to inbox

When I start the gmail app I would like it to ALWAYS go to the Inbox. Instead it starts with some old message displayed and I have to tap menu - Back to Inbox so I can see new messages. And it's not like it's opening the last message that I was reading either - it's some older message pretty far down in the Inbox.

Is there any way to force it to ALWAYS go to the Inbox when I start the app?

It's annoyances like this that caused me to bail to K9 instead. The Gmail app needs some work IMO but I can't really recall having the problem you mentioned. Then again, I don't think I really ever randomly opened my Gmail but rather went into it from clicking on a new message bar notification. I think it always went to the inbox??

Anyway, not really an answer but if nothing else it's a bump for a member who spends more time giving help than getting it. ;)

Hope you find an answer Musky.

1+ Had that issue too, then I removed the widget (because of user error) and put it back on (not even restarting the phone) and the next email I got went right to the inbox, I actually had to stop myself from the usual method of menu>lables>inbox. Got a 2nd email and same thing, it just works now. Not very scientific, but hopefully it works for you. :D;)

What you have to do is to keep hitting the back key until you get to the "base inbox." You'll know that you have hit it too many times if you return to the Home screen.

(By back key - I refer to the arrow key at the bottom - not the "Back to Inbox" under Menu)

That is a work-around yes, but I didn't have to do this the first month I had the phone, it just opened to the inbox when I hit the Gmail widget.

But thanks for the input and welcome to the forum!
