Is there a way to merge message threads in messages?

I imported text messages from my old phone, but they didn't merge with the contacts who had texted me on my new phone.

For example, if I had 5 texts already on my HTC Desire from John and then I imported 40 texts from my old phone from the same number (John), then they have two separate threads of "John" rather than merging into one thread with 45 messages.

Anyone know how to merge these threads?

Yes I have but there isn't a merging option.

Yes, they are exactly the same and yet I still have two Johns. It is because I imported the messages from my old phone.

I did the same, and the only issue like you rd were messages were from +447 where as contact was 07...

Even missing the +, as in 447 or () in the number will affect this too

Didn't work for me I'm guessing there is no app to merge the SMS's yet..

The phone isnt happy with something between the numbers. They may look fine, but perhaps there is some stray in the CSV file you used? Even a space before the number starts?

As I say, I had similar to you, until I corrected the offending contact, then they auto merged.

How and where would I correct this? On my Phone? Using what?

Open the csv on a pc and compare with Googlemail contacts on your pc.

Why would I compare it to my googlemail contacts - they are not linked.

Whatever your contacts are then.

The reason they didnt merge, is the numbers are 100% match. Once you sort whatever isnt right, they will automatically merge.

I've gotta find a program for my PC then that lets me edit the files very quickly - Other than Excel, any recommendations?

Use notepad++ or notepad? ctrl+F will enable you to find/find and replace within a few clicks and excel wont screw your csv up
