Roll Call: SERO plan to EVO

There have been other threads for carrier jumpers but I just wanted to see how many people are finally getting off of the old SERO plans because of the EVO. I was tempted for awhile to get a Touch Pro 2 and stay on SERO but eventually decided to get the EVO. It's going to be about double what I'm currently paying but the way I see it it's still a better deal than what the other carriers offer for a phone that has a list of features that very few phones can match.

Sprint is probably going to be REALLY happy to see me off of that plan!

My wife and I both are jumping ship on the SERO, I'm sad to see it gone. But, like you said, the plan we are on now is much better than any other carrier out there. Plus, we knew in order to get decent phones, we had to upgrade at some point. So the EVO was the best time to do it.

Yup. Moving from the 900 minute (or whatever it was) SERO plan to a family plan. I won't see much of a difference in cost, though. Two lines, ten bucks off for the next two years and a 25% corporate discount clocks us in at about 110 bucks for both of us with plenty of minutes to go around.

55 bucks a head is just fine with me, especially since her phone plan will actually be about 20 bucks cheaper than what it was per month.

I will miss SERO, though. It's what got me onto Sprint in the first place and it treated me very well.

Sprint is giving me $20 credit for two years, just to get my ass off the SERO account, and into the EVO. They might even buy me a steak dinner if I asked them.

My $30 SERO is turning into a $129 family plan with 4 phones on it($20 each for phones 3 and 4). Getting my $10/24 pretty much negates the $10 EVO charge so $170-25%/4=$32. So, I get an EVO for $2 more a month...pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.

Also, Any Mobile Any Time really makes 1500 minutes more than enough...may even try to pick up a 5th phone which would bring the numbers down to $28.35 per phone!

startling news (to me at least haha) but it seems that on sprintusers.com users are saying that the 10/24 is no longer offered! it "expired" on 5/31/10.

i'm hoping since we're SERO customers, they'll be making more money off us anyways even if they offer us 10/24 so i'm still going to ask for it. this just sucks if it's true though...

Giving my $30 SERO to my dad b/c he's happy with a TP2 (he wants a physical keyboard, and I figure the TP2 is the Cadillac of keyboard phones).

Have a friend ditching SERO altogether & I'm bringing 3 siblings over from att & vzw, we're joining forces on a 5-line 5-EVO plan.

I dropped my F&F SERO last month. It was a great ride while it lasted. (4 1/2 yrs) I got 10/24 plus I'll finally be able to use my employer discount so I don't feel too bad about it.

sheeesh some people just want to spend their whole day whiiiiining and whining.

But this thread is really a great question. I regret (somewhat) giving up my sero plan late last year, but 20x24 was hard to pass up (yes, 20). And I knew better phones were around the corner.

But that 20 (or 10 whatever) is going to expire. Then it's going to be A LOT of money difference from what it once was. And all for what?

They are all "just phones"! I will be honest and say I admire those that can resist the temptation. I want to "play", we all do I'm sure, but it's really gonna cost in the end.

Overall, when I'm through playing... the phone is still just a phone.

Wife and I too. The ability to feed the Netflix to the TV through the Roku box using the HotSpot as the connection is awesome. And it streams perfect on 3G, after an initial "downshift". I could never get that to work on any other phone, and can't find on the net that anyone else ever has got a Roku box to feed off a phone (and many have tried).

That's a very good point. I had considered jumping on a Pre last year but didn't do it because I wanted to hang on to SERO and for exactly that reason; like a car, after you've had it for a little while it's no longer an awesome vehicle, it's just your car.

I jumped for the EVO because it's at least an order of magnitude superior to my current Touch Pro (way better hardware, way better OS, way better software) and because SERO is obviously getting phased out at this point anyhow. They're not releasing phones that you can put on the plan.

Besides, Sprint is so cool about getting discounts and hook-ups on your account that as long as you do your research, you can absolutely get below "retail" cost, and retail cost is below the competitors. Heck, ANYONE can get the 25% off discount or an EPRP plan. I got my 10/24 by learning about it here and getting on a ten minute call with retentions. Then on top of that, you get stuff like Premier which is amazing for gadget fans like most of us... etc etc.

Anyhow, I'm going to miss SERO, but I'm very glad that Sprint hasn't banished the spirit of it. You can still get ridiculously good deals from them and that's why they're going to have my business for the foreseeable future.

Not a plan, a discount. 10 dollars off for 24 months. I got mine through retentions, a strategy I know lots of us coming from SERO have used.

Mine was 25%, but yup, sure did. Makes it a pretty sweet deal, huh? I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to do the same with your 27%.

I got the 10/24 going first through retentions and then did the standard internet signup on Sprint's website for the corporate discount.

On top of that, I'm pretty sure (though not positive) that the way the math is done, Sprint applies the 25% off first and THEN shaves off the 10 bucks. That maximizes the savings, even though it's just $2.50.

My understanding of this is that it's very simple: Every EVO that you have on whatever plan you're working for will cost an extra 10 dollars for each EVO present. So yeah, I think if you have a family line with four EVOs, you'll have 40 dollars worth of the EVO fee every month on top of whatever your plan is.

Each additional line after the 2nd on an Everything Data Share is $19.99 each.
I have a 3 line Ed1500 plan. Cost is $129.99 plus $19.99 for the 3rd line.
This also does not include the $10 Evo fee which is on top of that.

I left Sero back in Jan of this year and took advantage of the $20/24 credit. I have a 27% corp discount also on that. Made the leap in anticipation of this phone.

Dont regret it since I got so many deals and credits since then to justify even having the plan after the $20 credit expires.

My plan after taxes and having insurance on one line costs me $118. I know people that pay that much on Verizon for one line.

So far it looks like I may be the only person in this thread who is going to stay with a crappy phone just to get a good monthly deal. No matter how wonderful the Evo seems, it just doesn't make sense to give up the $20/month deal. I can see a point in the future where Sprint will just drop all Sero/F&F plans so they can get people like me to spend more money. That, or Sprint knows I am still using the instinct and how worthless of a phone it is, that it will only be a matter of time before the Instinct dies or I can't stand the under-performance of it and will be willing to spend twice as much for the Evo.

I tried getting the 10/24 discount through a sprint chat rep, but I couldn't get the fee waived.

Is the discount really over? Any advice on how to make the jump from SERO to EVO? I'm willing to pay more, but I can't justify $80/m for a phone. Otherwise I'm gonna just be with SERO forever. That or get the base data plan with ATT with the iPhone.
