Help Any way to update the Momment to 2.1 using a mac?

I have the same issue too... I love the Android OS and really love it since Rooting and adding some custom stuff... I'm hooked... Therefore I will probably go out and buy and Windows machine solely for my android phone... I've been using my company laptop but should probably stop that...

If you update your phone with a recovery from SDX, you can do a lot of the future updates without the need to use the computer to connect to the phone. You just get the file and put it on the SD card and flash it from recovery. I would do that before you go out and buy a new computer.

So your advice is to flash in recovery, which the OP can't do without first installing recovery from a PC, instead of using a computer that can actually do the update. Okay.

OP - Boot Camp and maybe Parallels are both options to try. Macs are just PC clones afterall.

Yes, if the OP has a friend or family member that will allow him or to use their PC for about 1/2 hour, that is what I'm saying, but if they want to spend a bunch of change for a new computer that most likely will not be better than their Mac just so they can update a phone they will likely upgrade in less than 12 months, more power to them. It helps the economy, especially China's. :D

i have the newest version of parallels and it wont work. it will not recognize the phone when its in that update status. the one when you have to press volume down, camera, and the end button. but if the phone is just on it parrelle sees it.

i have given up. im gonna have to go pay 20 bucks at Best buy for their "geek squad" (rip off artist) to do it.

I run Linux and have seen the same thing with VirtualBox - virtual Windows XP recognizes the phone when turned fully on and plugged in to USB, but when it is in the download mode, the phone is not recognized by the virtual machine. I ended up using my work's computer.

So you are saying you have absolutely no access whatsoever to a Windows machine (work, friend, family, neighbor, enemy, etc.)? The poster above is correct - after doing the initial update and installing a recovery partition, everything else can be done on a Mac or Linux box (custom kernel, custom ROM, rooting, etc.). Was the Sprint store you went to a repair shop, or just a retail shop? You'll probably need to go to a full-blown repair shop Sprint store to get the update. Finding one shouldn't be too difficult, and it's far better than blowing the money and having the hacks at Best Buy do it for you.

i use PC at work but i cant use my work computer to do this. no admin access. and yes the Sprint store was a full store with repair and everything but they said the means they have to do it doesnt work any longer and dont have an ETA when it will be fixed. could be months they said. they refered me to BB and BB says it cost them 20 bucks to do it.

I looked at sprint's instructions and it says to use windows. i do not have any computers in the house that have windows installed on them...anyway to do it on a mac.

I have Snow Leopard running on my iMac. I'm not advocating anything illegal here, just making an observation...

You can install Windows 7 via BootCamp. You NEVER have to enter a product key. You can select the option to enter it later. It will ask you for it each time you boot up, but you can continue to choose to register later. I have been running 7 since it came out this way. I bought it and was too lazy to enter the product key. Works fine.

Soooo, if you were to obtain a copy of Windows 7 legally, you could install it, be too lazy to enter a product code, and use Sync to update your phone, and then delete the partition. Just sayin'....

Not sure why you are calling the Geek Squad rip off artists. Yes you have to pay them, but they do know what they are doing, and lets face it if you go to them you DON'T know what you are doing. So what is the problem for paying someone who can do something for you, that you cannot?

If you can't get access to a windows machine, can't install win on your mac, can't go to a friends Windows machine and even Sprint won't help you, I don't understand why you would begrudge $20.00 to a company that can do exactly what you want.

Think they are rip off artists, don't use them, and see what you can do on your own. Otherwise pay them, and say Thank You :)
