720p records at 20fps.

It is probably easier to encode at a lower resolution so the framerate and performance is better. My webcam is similar. At 1920x1080 there is a little bit of choppiness whereas 720x480 is smooth as silk.

Seems to be a microSD write-speed limitation, jury is still out on whether higher speed microSDs will allow for higher bitrates (I really hope so..)

The framerate is light dependent. With less light, the framerate will drop significantly. I have a Evo produced 720p video file that has a 24fps framerate, so the "20fps" limitation is not accurate.

Every one just go to Youtube and put in the search, "evo 4g 720p," and you'll get a bunch of videos taken directly with the phone in all kinds of locations and lighting.
