Sending 8MP photos. Too big?

on my Palm treo I send alot of pics to friends of various phones and carriers. They're no where near 8 megapixels though.

My concern is, if I'm taking pics with the back camera, will the pics be too big to send to them? I'm guessing they'll be around 4 megabytes (plus or minus, depending on compression.)


Won't that be kind of big for standard picturemail? Or does each carrier auto-resize the pics depending on the phone it's being sent to?

depends what size your saving them as, not the mp of the camera

I know, but 8 megapixels is about 4 megabytes (I think) if I'm saving them at default settings.

The Hero with its 5mp camera has trouble sending MMS unless you go down to 3 or 1mp. The limit is 1MB if I'm not mistaken. If I know I'm going to send it in an MMS, then I will drop the res down - otherwise (email, facebook upload, flickr, etc.) I will shoot at 5mp.

I was thinking about this too. Probably better to just set the camera to 3-4 MP and use those size pic files for sharing online or MMS.

Well, just be friends with only Evo Owners and there won't be a problem

Just tried it. Mms will resize but gmail sends them at full 8mp.

are you sure? i remember i couldn't send pics from my 5mp nexus one to my wife's mytouch because it was too big.
