Anyone in Los Angeles? - June 4th

I hate the shack, every time I go there the associates are a joke, I mean the ones at BB are too, but RS employees are suppose to be smarter than that.

Plus the crap they sell in their stores is horrible, I'm not paying 40 dollars for a crappy mouse. Pass.

I usually always buy from sprint direct, but I didn't want to put up with the rebate.

Stopped by Best Buy at The District (on Jamboree and Barranca in Irvine, or is it actually Tustin?) where I pre-ordered to see if they were taking appointments. BB rep said expect a call either today or tomorrow to schedule one...the manager's were still trying to decide if they were going to open at 8am or 8:30am on Friday for Evo pre-orders (I believe they're normal opening time is 10am).

Also, there were about 35 pre-orders on the list and they've started a second list (with about 10 people so far) for the second shipment.

Can't wait!!

For those of you in L.A. buying directly from a Sprint store, I HIGHLY recommend the Westwood corporate branch (corner of Ohio and Westwood). The Assistant Store manager there (Ronnie) is a very cool cat and no doubt knowledgebale.

-EDIT-
Forgot to mention that he also told me that 4G is ALREADY LIVE in parts of L.A. The areas he mentioned, that I remembered off the top of my head, were DTLA, W. Hollywood, I think Beverly Hills, up and down La Cienega Blvd. He said that he's sure there'll be a ton more going live once the phone launches, but those are the ones he mentioned to me.

If this truly is the case, that'll mean I'll be testing out 4G at WORK on Friday!

I had a not so great experience there. I had a Hero with a bunch of dust in the screen and went in to ask if they'd clean it since many peeps here have had it done. The greeter girl was beyond useless, not very nice, and kept trying to tell me I'd have to pay $50 and that they don't even have the right parts they need. She left me waiting while she went to the back to "check" ... for like 10 minutes - and never actually came back. Finally one of the techs saw me waiting and decided to help me, even though like 2-3 techs seemed to be sitting around playing on their personal phones.

I asked him to just open it and blow the dust out as this is what I'd heard other people are doing. I didn't want to open it myself cause I figured he knew better than I did - I was wrong, he scratched up the INSIDE of the screen tearing it apart and also made my buttons super hard to push (he didn't put it back together correctly). Also fried my 8GB MicroSD card some how and it's not usable anymore. He was a nice dude and ended up ordering me a replacement, my only disappointment with him was that he just wasn't good at what he was doing. I ended up with a Refurb with some dust under the screen instead of my original phone with a clean screen.

Most of my problems were with the silly greeter girl. It's unfortunate that is the first person a customer interacts with, if it were my store she'd not have a job. I don't complain often but trying to tell me it's not covered and that if I want a housing replacement I should pay $50 and never even asking if I have TEP on the account, then leaving me waiting and never coming back was ridiculous. The whole store overall was something I'd be embarrassed by if I worked for Sprint.

Ah well. The guy I bought my Hero from who is super cool was kind enough to hook me up by saving me an Evo if I show up early (he's at a different corporate store, and no I won't say who or where because I don't want him to get in trouble) so I'll be happy tomorrow morning. Just have to get up super early!

I'm in Hermosa too - didn't pre-order but thinking about the Sprint store on Hawthorne and Artesia that I pass every day on the way to work - do you know if that store is opening early?

The one on Hawthorne, and Artesia is not a sprint store, its a reseller. Its wierd cause it looks like it, but I went in and they said they are not a Sprint store.

The one on Rosecrans and Avation is, but they are small and annoying. I've always had good luck with the on Hawthorne, and Torrance Blvd. They seem to be way more stocked, they are opening early as far as I know, but best bet to call them.

So after reading a couple of posts I tried to switch on the 4G here in downtown L.A. and what do you know - it works! 4G icon up top, 2 out of 3 bars.

Did a speedtest from the speedtest.net app in the market - 3MB down, 1 MB up. Everything is smooth as butter - gmail, market, browsing.. very cool.

Edit: Just tried the "Xtremelabs Speedtest" - It gives me 3.7/8 MB down, only about .4 MB up.

May 13th...I was number 7 what number were u?

Not even sure, there was a noob girl there. But I went May 16th so hopefully somewhere below 100. Did they tell you that number?

Did you get a black and white 8 by 11 sheet with the reservation info? And I heard we weren't suppose to get taxed for the gift card as well.

Yup i received that sheet and when i asked what number i was they told me 7. I was taxed for the gift card and i'm making sure they don't double tax me tomorrow.

I hope they call me soon i'm getting very impatient. If they don't call i'll be there right when they open bugging them for my damn phone.

Same here, I'll be there when they open if they don't set up an appointment. The other guy there told me that it wasn't first come first serve and that it will be completely by order. And that if anything we should expect the phone within 48 hrs.
