Hello,
Name is Capwn ( or matt ), I would say Im good with computers, Ok very good .. Anyways I just got my Sprint HTC Hero last week , Loving it.. But I need some serious help rooting this thing. Ive tried EVERY SINGLE GUIDE and the Instant root. Still no Root access. I have a feeling this forum contains my answers... Thanks in advance.

You should have a read of all the stuff over in the Sprint Hero rooting section.

Im still stuck. I either get the "Operation not permitted" error after the
"mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system" command.
I got it to work one time but then got this error when trying to input the next step..
"cannot create su: read-only file system".. what the heck am I doing wrong.???

If you have 2.1 it can't be rooted..... yet

You got your Hero Last week? Chances are it already has 2.1 on it. Please verify your current software that is installed. If it is 2.1, then I'm sorry but you cannot root it, yet. Once 2.1 is rooted, you will know it .

If your phone is running 1.5, you can root it, as long as it is a Sprint HTC Hero. There is a guide at the top of this forum that will help you, but again, you cannot be running the official sprint 2.1.

Umm so I need to go back to 1.5 I would assume. Ive been playing with Fresh Kitchen. Under the diagnostics tab everything is PASS except REMOUNT and SENDKEYS. They are both listed as FAIL... First off how do I fix this?? Second, If I cook a fresh rom. Is it pretty easy to flash it onto the phone?

You can't go back to 1.5.

Until root access is gained for 2.1 you won't be able to root.

Yup, sorry. You can't go back to 1.5. Once the official 2.1 is loaded, you are stuck. I would imagine the official 2.1 will be rooted soon, but until then, I'm afraid you are stuck.

Sorry for your situation, but hopefully the devs will get 2.1 rooted before long and you will be able to get control of your phone. Others are probably like me...I came here a couple weeks before Sprint released their official 2.1. Tired of waiting on them, so I rooted and it's been great! Flipz even had a 2.1 ROM out before Sprint did, and it was 99% or more what Sprint released.

Definitely worth the upgrade... 2.1 handles a few things much better than 1.5.
