Stock rom, non-rooted: This OTA update pops up out of nowhere

Have not yet installed. Trying to find the ZIP on my phone.

xda is advising not to d'l any ota's per their rooting instructions.

lol no way would htc/sprint release a patch that quickly and not even know what security issue they needed to fix

Great idea! I used the search function in Root Explorer, but found neither "OTA_Supersonic" or "update.zip"

It must be in one of those folders that need root to view (right now I'm stock no root) like /data or something

Why the issue with installing it?
If we lose root, I am sure someone will just un-root it again.

I really doubt this will turn into apple vs jail-breakers.

I think most people have waited so long to try the unrevoked.com stuff that it's not worth installing until we're sure it doesn't mess with the root method.

Edit: Someone is saying this is an "HTC Software Update" and not a "firmware update"

Yeah because a firmware update would be Froyo, right?

I can understand some being hesitant.

But still, HTC has never really shown it to be a company to close rooting (or HSPL) holes in the firmware.

Not sure what the distinction is, but I'm sure "firmware updates" can include more than just Froyo.

You will have to root to find it =D probably sitting there somewhere on the ROM

13 megabytes seems like a bit much just for an SD card fix...I'm gonna have to ask the RS employee to NOT download the update if he tries to.

I'm worried it may cause a few problems with rooting, but hopefully someone can confirm whether it does or not.
