SystemPanel: a task killer for people who hate task killers.

Tlie, I think your app is amazing.

However i have one suggestion as to make it slightly better. Would it be possible to enable (with an option) to show the battery % in the notification icon (the one that pops up when you enable monitoring)

It would be nice if you could enable it without enabling the monitoring setting.

This way we can all save extra battery life by deleting our battery widget apps :)

Thanks

I love your system panel app and will purchase the paid version. But I do
have some questions which I hope you have the time to answer. I use a stock
non rooted nexus one.

Regarding all listed apps under "active" column, the status can either say
background, visible, or service. I am unclear why these can change for a
given app.

For example, if I send touiteur to the background with the home button,
system panel status says touiteur is "background". But if I use the BACK
button to leave touiteur the status in system panel says the app is
"visible". I thought that there was no difference using the home button vs
back button? Note that both of these scenarios show touiteur in the "active
apps" column, so what is the difference between this?

Also I do not like some characteristics of the way android multitasks. For
example once in a while when I minimize opera mini, the OS closes it and I
lose the webpage I was reading. Even if I only switch away for 2 seconds.
The OS just decides to close it for no reason. I run stock android 2.1, no
extra apps or services running. Just complete stock setup.

The OS seems to pre load apps I DON'T use, but not the apps I actually WANT
to use. So this is the reason some people want to keep apps from closing just because the OS decided to and instead pre load a bunch of apps I haven't used in weeks.

I am very confused on exactly how android handles multitasking. But I do
understand how and why it caches apps for quicker access to them. This much
is clear to me, meaning everything shown under "inactive (cache)" and
"internal system processes" I completely understand. I also understand
services.

But I do not understand "visible" vs "background" vs "foreground", yet view
all appear under active apps column.

Thanks for any clarification you can provide.

Roger

Im not the type of person to write bad about apps; this is a very powerful app but I dont suggest it. It stopped my messages from coming in here and there and no I did not have it on auto kill. I had it on ignore and it would still lose my text messages. I deleted the app and I started getting all my messages without a problem or delay. I suggest to let android take care of your tasks itself.

You are using it wrong. The fact that you even mentioned "auto kill" means that you are using this app the wrong way.

Here's how I did it, I installed the app and that's it. Don't do any typ3 of ignoring or excluding of apps cause that is just asking for trouble. You just install it and let the android OS take care of everything else. You should not be using this app to kill apps or do auto kills. Only thing you can use if for is every once in a while when an app goes nuts, kill it.

My texts have been working fine with this app. So again you are doing something wrong if this app is preventing your texts from being received.

I have uninstalled ATK and will give this a shot. 1st impression is that I like the lay out. I have a suggestion/question, is it possible to set a notice/warning to identify an App that may be using a significant amount of resources. Say after a 24hrs of monitoring or something like that. (Exclude apps that have been ignored i.e. Live Wallpapers).

Also a question, would something like HelixLauncher need to be added to the ignore list?

I've written a new task manager / system information app called "SystemPanel". Best--Tod

I'm very thoroughly impressed (and that's hard to do with apps). I quit using advanced task manager for this. It's soo nice to have so many apps in one. Many many kudos. I'm telling everyone I know who has a Droid to download it.

i've been using system panel since the beginning, and love it. using it on stock 2.1 ROM on my nexus one, system panel shows your active apps at the top, then your inactive (cached) apps, followed by your system processes at the end.

but tonight i upgraded to froyo, and updated system panel at the same time, and now the app no longer shows your "inactive cached" apps. it skips right over that and shows running apps followed by system processes. i dont know if this is something new with froyo and how the OS works, or has the developer simply updated system panel and removed this function? it was an incredibly useful piece of info to see with this superb app, and i'm not sure what's going on. does anybody know what is going on, has this app been updated and removed the inactive app list?

I noticed a little bar on the left of the applications list, which I'm assuming shows the activity of each app. Scroll down to the System App and you can see the bar go up, then back down. I would think that inactive apps would show no activity, but Spare Parts and Toggle Settings were listed as inactive apps and both showed activity. Is that an indication that they should be killed?

When looking for a "bad" app, one that won't let the phone sleep, what should I be looking for? Being in the active list after exiting doesn't seem to a problem. Should I check for CPU usage? Should I turn monitoring on for a couple of hours and then compare it to ..... what? I'm not sure what to look for.

Oh, and I still have the inactive list of apps, but I don't have system processes at the end - at least there's not another heading that says system processes.

Yeah system processes is turned off by default. You have to enable it in the settings.

So you still have the inactive apps list. Are you running froyo or still on 2.1 android? And have you upgraded system panel lately to the newest version? Thanks.

Hello all,

SystemPanel 1.0.0 has been released this morning. This is the paid app, priced at $2.99 (USD).

My apologies for not monitoring this thread more closely, have been extremely wound up in development the past few weeks, handling bug reports, testing, and doing other similarly "exciting" stuff.

The free version of the product is now "SystemPanel Lite". Yes, it does exclude the long term monitoring service and installer features (as described in the startup messages). The currently available Lite version is still 1.0.rc1, which is nearly identical to 1.0.0 and will work as the full version until June 11.

If you're buying it, your recorded monitoring data from the Lite version won't migrate to the full version. This is due to Android's application security policies (which are a good thing, just not in this case).

To Roger: sorry for delay in getting back to you as well, as far as I can tell the N1 with Froyo does not have any inactive/cached apps. I'm running the leaked Froyo version as well. On the other test phones (an Incredible, a Droid, and a G1) as well as in (non-Froyo) emulators I do see inactive processes as before.

And thanks again to all who provided bug reports and feature suggestions. Additional features will be added in future versions as well. 1.0 is only the first iteration.
