Handcent

I stopped using handcent because whenever I got a new message whatever message(or conversation) I was in before would pop up as the notification on the homescreen....anyone else have this problem/ know a fix.....

for example, i txt my wife something, then hit home.......a few minutes later my friend bob txts me, but the notification that pops up on my homescreen has the last comment to/from my wife, instead of saying its from bob...i have to open handcent, press back to view all conversations, then look for the bold name before i know who txt me......very annoying, I am back to using the stock messaging app for now...

I hated it too, until I figured it out. Just swipe to the left with your finger on the message and it will take you through all new messages that you haven't xd out of. Hell, it'll even read you the message, so you don't have to look at it.

bump . . .

I've used Handcent since I began using Android and I got my Dinc in April. I recently found out something that some may know, but not everyone. If you go online to My Handcent Account and set up an account, you can download themes for Handcent.

Open Handcent> menu> settings> account> Then log in using the information you used when you set up your Handcent Account. Once you are in the Account, you will see a "Handcent Themes" under Help. Open it and you can go through pre-made themes that you can apply to Handcent. It's actually really nice. There is also "Handcent Texts" that allows you to add a bunch of quick texts that you may want.

Just a FYI.

BTW, I wouldn't do the Handcent Backup premium services, it's not worth it, there are plenty of apps that do this for free.

Use the factory Messaging app to delete messages if you have alot. Handscent doesn't seem to handle the bulky inboxes well when it comes to deleting. Be warned -- it still takes a while.
Yeah if you have alot to delete it can take a while, and sometimes the screen will go black and phone will seem like its locked up, Just have to give it time to do its thing.

How do you turn that feature of so that when you get a text it does not open on the home screen, I rather just see a notification on the status bar, hate when people can see what message came in

Is handcent sms safe? It has a lot of permissions like phonecall access and read contact info?

Yes. I have been using it for years and love it. All the permissions are necessary. For the phone call access, it needs this so when your on the phone and you receive a message, it knows how to notify you. Read contact info, allows it to search your contacts using voice commands or imputting the contacts name to send a text. Not to mention which text thread the message belongs to. For example, all of my wife's text messages are all under her name, in the order received.
