Sprint systems slow/down?

I just got back from RS in downtown Manhattan. Haven't got my phone because the CS told me that they can't log into Sprint's system or get through on the phone. Anyone else being told this? If it's true you'd think Sprint would plan a little bit better knowing the kind of volume they have incoming.

Nope, I have my Evo playing with right now. The BBM store in Aventura, FL opened at 7.00 AM and my appointment was at 7.30AM. I had my Evo at 8.00AM. This is a NICE phone.

I suspect there probably wasn't a problem that early in the morning. I also don't know if Sprint uses regional servers for their account setups, so that may be a factor as there's a higher population density here. Either way, it's really damn annoying.

is it possible to get the phone and activate it yourself later?

I asked her that very same question. She told me that the only way she could do that is if I payed full price for it. I guess you don't get the discount until after they get your 2-year agreement going, which they need to do via Sprint. Still waiting on a call from RS. :mad:

Unfortunately planning ahead doesn't really help much if the hardware can't handle it. They aren't going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to update their hardware because the system goes down for a couple hours every time a big phone release happens.

I ended up leaving RS this morning at about 10, after spending an hour and a half waiting for the guy in front of me to get his phone activated. Sprint's system was so backed up that the RS rep couldnt' get it to work.

He took my info and agreed to call me when/if the system was up again and my phone was activated so I could just come pick it up.

I'm a little impatient, but at least now I'm impatient at my office rather than waiting in a RS store!

Gah i just called RS and they said the same thing. Crappy thing is i have my friend heading over now so we can head up there since its the upgrade on his line. Hope it comes up quick.

Yeah, I think east coasters with early appointments are the lucky ones in this situation. As stores heading west opened and the system started getting hammered shit started going wrong. Sadly, unless Sprint has some sort of plan for getting QoS for their activation systems it looks like this will be a problem for most of the day. Dammit.

I went in 15 minutes early for my 10:30 appointment and the manger was still working with the guy he opened 30 minutes early for. Said their screen was stuck at the same place for the past 2 hours and no luck calling Sprint. I was afraid this would happen like what happened with AT&T. The manager didn't look very thrilled at all since he said he had a lot of preorders at his store. He said he would give me a call when he was making progress and would start activating the phone when I wanted so all I would have to do is stop by and pay for the phone.

Yes, I appointment is in about 20 mins and I just got a call from BB saying that Sprint's website just went down. The rep asked me if I want to change my schedule or come in ~20 mins later. I told her I will come in 20 mins later.....can't wait to hold my baby XDD
Hope it will recover really soon
