I finally got my Evo today. I have to sync it with Outlook to keep this phone and I DESPERATELY want to keep this phone over my Blackberry. Syncing over the air via Google is out of the question because Google taints my work data is several ways. Not to mention that notes and tasks aren't supported by the Google OTA sync.

I tried CompanionLink but it does not work with my Outlook system. It hangs up halfway through, and the troubleshooting says that it is likely a "corrupt" record in my calendar. "Calendar Record 22" whatever the f*ck that is referencing in Outlook.

SO. Do I have any other options for syncing my memos, contacts, and notes from Outlook to the phone? Please say yes.

Thanks for any help.

I need to leave GMail out of the picture. This has to sync straight from the phone to Outlook. No cloud or internet involved. Just a USB cord. Is that possible?

I just read something on HTCs terribly designed website about "HTC Sync" which promises to sync Contacts and Calendar only. I could live with that, but I can't find the application.

Did you try HTC Sync? It is on your SD card and you can also download it from HTC's site. I have never really used it because I just use Google and Google Calender Sync on my PC. For my Mac though I use a program called the Missing Sync... It is 40 bucks but works great. It also works on Windows with Outlook.

Will applications that work with Android work with the Evo? Isn't it running some sort of mongoloid, bastard hybrid of Sense and Android? :)

Hahaha sorry to laugh but that was funny. The EVO is Android plain and simple... It just isn't "vanilla" android... Their is no difference except for HTC Sense which is just a User Interface that HTC built for Android and Windows Mobile. The Android Market is filled with tons of front end UI's (Launcher Pro for example). The only thing that matter is the version of Android which the EVO is 2.1 and will be upgraded to 2.2 in the next few months.

1) Download and install HTC Sync from HTC Mobile Phone Support - HTC EVO? 4G (Sprint) - Downloads
2) Plug in the EVO using the USB Cable
3) Touch the status bar at the very top of the screen and drag it down
4) Choose the USB Mode "HTC Sync" (Instead of "Charge Only") or whatever

Took me a while to figure this out. Enjoy!
Kind of sucks that you can't seem to connect for Sync and Charge simultaneously!

Yep, the Evo is pretty hot.

I'm waiting for the OTA update to install, and hoping that the "dekstop clock" app will support landscape mode, as that would be the best app to use with the "kickstand" feature of the device.

We we're fortunate to get one early at Mark/Space via attending the Google I/O conference. That helped with making sure Missing Sync was good to go with it.

For those that want to check out our Android apps for Notes and Calendar events, you can download them for free from the market. Just do a search for "Fliq" and then install "Fliq Notes" and "Fliq Calendar". We'll be adding "Fliq Tasks" to the family in order to support tasks/to dos very soon, and topping off with "Fliq Bookmarks" (sync bookmarks with Safari/Firefox/IE). Once we have Fliq Tasks, we're looking forward to adding tasks integration to the calendar app -- good stuff!

Hi everyone,

CompanionLink's been hard at work getting ready for the EVO 4G. We recently pushed out a big update to DejaOffice, our super-charged suite of calendar, contacts, tasks and notes apps for Android. DejaOffice takes advantage of the huge screen on the EVO 4G to give you an address book with color-coded categories, variable font size, company name display, and advanced search and sort options. Calendar also has color-coded category support, with day, week, month, and list view modes (full year view coming soon). Tasks and Notes are there as well.

DejaOffice is available on the Android Market at no cost. You can use DejaOffice standalone, or in conjunction with CompanionLink to sync contacts, calendar, tasks and notes between the HTC EVO 4G and Outlook, Lotus Notes, ACT!, Palm Desktop and more. Try CompanionLink free for 14-days.

CompanionLink also has a new product called O2g. It's a simple, straightforward app that syncs contacts, calendar and tasks from Outlook to Google. Once in Google's hands, it will automatically sync with the EVO 4G. O2g is compatible with most versions of Outlook, including the new Outlook 2010 64-bit. O2g is available for $9.99 at www.o2gsync.com

I'm not allowed to use our Exchange Server on my mobile device because the device is not owned by my employer and the monthly service is not paid by them either. I fought hard with my Blackberry, and after convincing them I didnt care about email and was only concerned with my contacts and calendar they told me to use the usb to sync it. Will O2g, mimic the exchange server's capability to update contacts and calendar events in an OTA manner rather than usb? If so, I'm very very interested.

***edit***
I actually got bored at work this morning and tried the O2g sync program. Installation was easy. Before the first sync I had to verify some info, and then it went into sync mode. My blackberry would take about 3 mins to sync start to finish. Using the same outlook account, O2g took about 5 mins for the program to complete syncing and about another 1-2 mins for the Google calendar to sync OTA. Overall I was fairly pleased with the process and hope it continues to be as simplistic.

Yes, I was able to sync my EVO with outlook 2007. It will only sync contacts and calander however. I used the HTC Sync program to do it. It is on the SD card they ship in the phone. It was actually very easy to use and simple interface.

Oh.. and I don't know if im just lucky or what.. but when i connect my USB data cable to the computer and select sync on the menu.. it still charges the phone for me.. and lets me sync the phone at the same time. in fact.. it does the same thing when i select the option to access the SD card as a USB drive.

I use gSyncit (~ $15) after testing out all the free solutions I could find and not being able to get any fully functional with 2-way synching. I'm relatively happy with it as it syncs calendar, contacts, notes, tasks from outlook 2-way to my gmail account.

How do you view the tasks on your phone? Since the Evo doesnt have a task application. One of my biggest issue is not being able to sync tasks & notes, but mainly tasks.

Is there anyway to use your software to sync but use the native apps in the Evo instead of Deja?

I ws able to successfully sync my contact & calendar data on my Evo using HTC Sync through USB with the Outlook 2010 beta I have installed on my Win XP laptop. This is my first smartphone and first true sync and backup of that data for me. Worked both ways & updated my Evo & pc both. I haven't synced to the google cloud. Even though I use an Android phone, I don't wanna put all my contacts & personal & business emails up on a server somewhere outside of my control. HTC Sync is a good tool. And with the default Android or third party Pop/IMAP email client, I am not technically forced to use my gmail account either if I want to keep my email archives on my server and my own hard drives.

Yes, HTC Sync worked very well for me as well. However it does not do Tasks from outlook.

DejaOffice, mentioned above, has tasks and notes applications built in. Because Android has no native tasks (or notes) app, you'll have to use CompanionLink to sync tasks and notes from your PC.

Is there anyway to use your software to sync but use the native apps in the Evo instead of Deja?

Yes! CompanionLink syncs all data to DejaOffice. DejaOffice then has the option to sync its contacts and calendar data with the native Android databases. You can also use CompanionLink for Google to sync Outlook with Google, and then Google automatically syncs with the native Android contacts and calendar.
