over the past 20 minutes ive maybe read 100 times that people keep saying 'just ask sprint to give you the employee 27% discount' or something of that nature. can someone please elaborate further?? i would REAALLY appreciate it!

oh and enjoy ur evo, i know i will!

OMG I got a 25% discount as an employee of a company I don't work for!!! I followed the instructions here, which I summarize for completeness:

  1. Register a free aol account with the aim.com domain: https://new.aol.com/productsweb
  2. Go to Sprint's corporate discount site: Sprint | Employer Discounts and enter your aim.com email address.
  3. Wait for an email from Sprint (took about an hour in my case)
  4. Follow that link, enter "Cox Enterprise" as your employer.
  5. Duh, order your phones and service!

Note: I had 3 Sprint lines were beyond the contract period. It was complicated to convert these into EVO phones without losing your existing phone numbers (porting the numbers over doesn't work; the website sends you into endless loops and/or "sorry no can do, call Sprint" messages.) What I did was

  1. Create 3 new lines
  2. When I checked out, I added those lines to my existing account rather than starting a new one. In fact, by doing it this way I got an additional $50 instant discount for new lines of service.
  3. When I get the new phones I'll activate them, swap around the phone numbers, then cancel the old lines of service.

At least, I hope that will work. If Sprint tries to deny that and charge me up the wazoo for 6 phones, at worst I can just send back the 3 new phones within the 30 days, although that means a lot of wasted effort.

The Cox Enterprise discount has nothing to do with AOL as Cox employee email addresses end with @cox.com.

Yeah I was wondering about that, what the blank does cox have to do with anything... I just followed the directions from the other site and it worked. I guess sometimes it's best not to ask too many questions (now if only I followed my own advice more often!)

Huh no idea why that works but Cox is basically going to be running their new wireless phone service on Sprint's network so that is how Sprint and Cox figure but AOL is an unknown to me

Will this work if there is already 5 lines on the account?

Kind of weird when the max amount of lines you can have is 5 but you made it into 6.

i got 25% discount because the sprint rep initially told me a cheaper price on the phone when i pre ordered it and i have the 15% student discount. so they gave me 10% discount for the hassle on top of the 15% student discount.

Are they just going to do a flat 25% discount and have you seen your bill yet to confirm? Only reason I ask is their system normally doesn't stack discounts like that.

I THINK what I have is two separate plans with 3 phones each:

Plan 1: 3 older phones, contract expired
Plan 2: 3 new EVOs, with plan / contract to be activated

but both plans are under the same account, so if I had both plans active at the same time (which of course I have no intention of doing) then I'd get two separate statements every month.

At least, that's what I THINK is going on... we'll see. Another possibility is that I can't have more than 5 active phones on this account at the same time; again I have no intention of having more than 3 active at one time.

Hey, thanks for the tip! Also... PLEASE, let us know how it goes once you get the phones and try to xfer the numbers. Maybe it'll be easy, or maybe you'll learn some new tips to make it successful. Thanks!

I'm still not understanding this 27% discount everyone is saying they got. It is the employee discount? So I can just go into BB and say "go ahead and apply that 27% employee discount", and they will give it to me without asking for proof of employment or anything? I just have a feeling I am going to end up looking like a complete ratard.

I had to go in the Sprint Store with a pay stub and my business card.

Goodness gracious...

Company X has to be in agreement with Sprint for an employee discount program. If Company X is enrolled and you work for Company X, you will have to provide proof that you are a current employess. I've been getting a 25% discount since 2004 because I worked for a very large company. I recently started a new job and my current company also participates in the Sprint program. Unfortunately switching over to my current comapny's program required me to extend my contract. Since I no longer work for company A and if they ever do an audit, I will loose my discount. SO I am going to go ahead and extend my contract.

What sucks right now is that at my current company, At&T customers get 30% discount off their monthly bill while Sprint only gets 25%. So everyone has a damn Iphone...I don't think thats fair and hopefully I can get atleast 27%. I also get 25% off accessories...
