I have spent the past 6 hours trying to copy Matrix Revolutions (std def) to my new EVO with no luck. I purchased the dvd so I have no problem with asking how to decrpyt and then rip to my laptop so I can transfer to EVO. Can anyone point me to a thread or similat which will walk me through the steps to (1) decrypt, (2) rip to laptop, (3) copy files to EVO and (4) view on EVO. I need to know software names, settings, Android apps, etc... (the whole works) to do this properly. I have read a lot of info and I am getting close, but I just can't seem to get everything to work properly.

back in the day when I was a DVD ripping fool I'd use;

1 - anydvd running inthe background
2 - DVD shrink to rip and shrink an iso to fit 4.7GB dvd
3 - if DVD shrink didn't work, I'd use DVD decrypter
4 - DVD decrypter to burn the ISO to a DVD

DVD decrypter is now "Imageburn"

And I'm not 100% sure what will turn the ISO or VOB files to MP4.

I've heard many say "Handbrake" will do this and you just choose MP4 for iphone.

I tried handbrake, but did not realize the files were encrypted (yes, I am a novice). It tooks about 3 hours with handbrake to get garbage. I then tried a decypter which appeared to work, but the finished files were .AVI and I could not figure out what to do with them after that. So I should try decrypt then handbrake to convert to MP4?

Try downloading a program called double twist to your computer. It will automatically format the video into the correct format for the EVO, wont take any effort from you.

Have you tried this? I read in the XDA forum the resolution was poor and handbrake provided a much higher quality picture. I have doubletwist on my EVO which I planned to use for viewing. Are you saying I can download doubletwist to my laptop and decrypt/rip dvd's and then transfer to the EVO?

Doubletwist does not recognize the EVO, just a generic android phone and down grades the video to 480x320. EVO is capable of 720p video. Perhaps the authors of doubletwist or handbrake will come up with a profile for EVO that works. With over 100,000 new users there just might be others looking for this.

I have yet to find a spec that shows what EVO can play at 720p other than the 3GPP format it records in.

So have you tried to get a DVD onto the EVO yet? Any luck at any resolution? Suggestions?

You can download DVD Decrypter and AVS Video Converter.

Pop in your DVD then launch DVD Decrypter. It should automatically read the DVD. Now click on the yellow folder in the Destination area, name your folder and click OK.

Click the Decrypt icon at the bottom. Once completed this will create a set of VOB files in your destination folder. There are usually a bunch of these files so I click thru the first few of them to find out which will start to play the full length movie.

After this I launch the AVS Video Converter. Click on the Browse button in the Input File Name section and find the VOB file that launched the full movie.

Click on the Browse on the Output File Name. Name your file and change the file type to .m4v (MPEG 4 video file) and save.

Click convert now and you should be able to move the video file over to your SD card once finished.

The one I downloaded was a non activated version and it puts watermarks in the very beginning and end credits but they aren't present throughout. Once I got my movies to my EVO, the quality was good and not pixelated or choppy.

Hope this helps.

AnyDVD and Handbrake works perfectly. Both FREE though AnyDVD will be a 21 day trial. That should be more than long enough to get all your DVDS to the way you need them.

I have 4 movies on my EVO right now cus of it, and the quality is amazing. Look for the online walk through of how to use Handbrake so that the videos are formatted correctly on the video, and audio tabs of handbrake.

I spent HOURS ripping a movie from DVD to my laptop using Handbrake (I used the step-by-step directions found on the "Know Your Cell" web site to rip it to MP4 format). Unfortunately, when I play the movie on my HTC EVO 4G (or even Windows Media Center) all I see is a mess of pixels !!! Any suggestions ? Thank you.

handbrake doesnt rip, just converts. You have to rip first with either DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, or DVD Fab.

Update: I tried double twist and was pretty impressed with the speed. Took maybe 1 hour for a 2 hour movie and the quality was good. The only gripe I have is that the video doesn't play fullscreen on the EVO (its more widescreen). Maybe I missed where I can change that but haven't found a setting option.

I tried DVDFab, but again the conversion slows down dramatically at around 7%. Idk if im doing something wrong here.

Next step is to try Mr. Ed's suggestion.
