Former iPhone users.. are you pleased?

I'm still in reviewing mode as well. I have some problems with the WIFI connection, but that may be a specific handset issue rather than an overall EVO issue. I HATE the fact that I have to figure out a way to sync my iCal calender and this EVO calender, apparently there are tons of post of the problems with this specific issue.

Outside of those two things, I feel like the device gives the user a lot more customization and control. And the screen and blazing Dolphin browser are really good features. I'm not completly sold yet though, the syncing interface issues make me feel as I've taken a step backwards. I'll give my full review in a week. I really love the 30 days no questions asked full refund. That makes me feel comfortable in taking my time in reviewing the device.

One of the most rewarding experiences was the app store. Whenever I buy an app on the iPhone, it knocks me out of the app store, and back to the home screen while it loads the app. If I wanted to keep searching for apps, I have to go back into the app store and have it reload my last search.
With Android, After I tell it to install an app, it does it in the background and automatically sends me back to my last search.
This truly is bliss.

Coming from an iPhone 3G, I must say after waiting 2 hours at Best Buy, I'd do it all over again, all week.

This phone just tossed a giant middle finger to Apple.

Now it's not an EVO issue, but these game developers better the ball rollin' with porting over all their iPhone games.

I miss BeJeweled Blitz, Angry Birds, and about 20 other games. :(

At least I can play the alternatives for now.

I'd have to say I'm happy with the Evo, but still sorting out the MobileMe to google transition. The Evo seems like a solid, well built phone, the multitouch is not as smooth as the 3GS but I can deal with that considering the Evo's multitasking abilities. The 4G hotspot is going to get a lot of use so looking forward to the network becoming more mature over the next few months here in KC. I was told it was still only about 60% and should be ramped up for July 1st.

Overall, happy that there is a legitament competitor out there with a quality product and a growing community to support and grow it.

This seems like a pretty active thread, so I'll ask my fellow ex-iphoners if they can do a simple experiment for me and post if it works. I am about 30% ready to jump to Android and the Evo, yet the convenience of iTunes and syncing my apps/podcasts is keeping me back for now. I have a lot of games that I can't find online in the Android store, like PvsZ, Angry Birds, GTA, etc. However, the ability to run flash could push me over quickly. Could someone please go to Marvel.com and see if they can open a free digital comic and see if the experience is pretty cool on the huge Evo screen! When I try opening a comic using my iphone, I get a message to download flash player. If someone tells me this works, that would be enough to push me over the edge!

So far I really like the device. It has its quirks here and there but i enjoy the customization and just how big the screen is. However im still struggling to get my music looking like it did on my iphone. I had all the album artwork and it was nice to scroll through it. I still havent found something to do it easily on my evo. any suggestions?
Same here, except I'm coming from a Pre -- it used the embedded art for the mp3s, but Android apparently doesn't, as far as I can tell.

get bTunes from the market. it's $1.50.

it's a direct ripoff of iphone/itouch's music player.

best $1.50 you spend.

Check out DoubleTwist. You might change your mind about using it for music. You can even use it to sync with itunes.
Yes. Picked up my Evo yesterday and sold my iPhone today.

I have an iPod classic that I use in my truck for my music if I didn't I would miss my iPhone because don't see me using my Evo as a music player. It did take some time to learn Android but really beginning to love it. Hated that I had to play cat and mouse with jailbreaking my phone just to set it up the way I want. I'm sure I will find bad things about the Evo but so far I love it.

Also living in an area with good 4g coverage doesn't hurt.

Overall, I am happy with my switch to the EVO from the iPhone GS.

Most of my complaints are sort of nit-picky, but here they are:

1) On-button. The iPhone home button serving as the "on" button allows for a one-handed turn-on of the phone (pres home and swipe without moving hand). The EVO's dual purpose "on/off" button makes it near impossible to use one hand to turn on the phone without adjusting the hand location.

2) End Call lag. When placing calls, the "End Call" button also serves as the "Call" button. But, there seems to be a lag between when you hit "End Call" and when the UI refreshes to show the call ended. It has me hitting "End Call" again, thinking I missed it, inadvertantly re-starting a new call.

3) Editing. A lot of widgets seem great at setting up new links, but it's sometimes hard to find out how to edit/delete stuff. For instance, on the "Favorites" widget, if you set-up someone's default action as "call", then want to change it, I had to delete the person from favorites and re-add, as you can't change the default action. Similarly, the weather channel widget, once you add a location, I can't find a way to delete them. Honestly, there's some many cool ways to do things, I feel like many apps just don't really think through complete functionality. Part of the good/bad of being on a pretty dynamic platform.

4) Cut/Paste. Am I missing this? It was such a big deal when they added this to the iPhone, I was certain it'd be here. I was trying to track a shipment from an on-line order, and I couldn't figure out how to highlight and paste the tracking number. Maybe this is a browser issue? Probably an android issue, not and EVO issue.

5) Delete functionality. I'd prefer to see delete as a primary function in mail, rather than having to go through the "unread" or "attachments" icon. I need to delete stuff all the time--I don't need to filter on attachment only icons quite so often. Adds needless clicks. I would say, in general, the delete functionality on most iPhone apps seemed easier/quicker to get to.

6) Dormant e-mail accounts. I keep e-mail accounts configured on the iPhone, but not active (I only activate them once in awhile). I can't seem to find a way to do this on the EVO.

7) Keyboard often covers-up "next" button. It seems that we often have to dismiss the keyboard to be able click the next button. Noticed this in several places. Most the time, the iPhone keyboard didn't block this.

8) iPhone interface for text message conversations was vastly superior. Adding in the picture of each person and the "ME:" tag and the date of each messages wastes a lot of space. It doesn't really affect the experience, but the iPhone is superior in this regard, imho. Maybe there's a better app I can use for messaging.

9) Messaging popups. For what it's worth, I prefer the iPhone popup when a message comes in--fewer clicks to get to the screen to reply.

Main pluses:

1) I love the "back" button functionality.

2) I'm still getting used to the Google-ness, but I'm liking the apps that make dynamic use of the main search button.

3) Exchange integration with work server worked flawlessly.

4) The EVO has amazingly crisp response time. It's a great to use.

5) The screen is great! Very impressive.

6) The customizability is pretty cool. I especially like being able to add widgets to do basic configuration stuff (wifi on/off, 4g on/off) on a main screen. iPhone required moving up/down the menu system to make some basic configuration changes--a definite plus.

7) Sprint network. In my area, a vast improvement.

Still unknown:

1) I haven't even tried syncing to music/movies in iTunes.

2) iTunes -- despite my gripes, it was nice to have a PC platform to manage my account, apps, and even the iPhone app layout. I'm new to android, need to figure out if there's anything comparable.

You can solve both of these by learning the long press. ie To delete a message, long press it. To copy text, long press it.

Available in your account settings. Set retrieve to manual.

Try Handcent and CompSMS.

Look for SMSPopup in Market.

Not possible as far as I know.

Doubletwist in Market.

Seems like you just need to spend more time getting to know the phone for most of this. I switched to Android from a BB a long time ago and it took me a while to adjust. Now when I use a BB, it seems....dated.

Play with the phone for a while, you'll figure most of this out.
