New Droid - media questions - need inline remote headphones!

Hello all! Loving my new Droid, but having a bit of a problem with the media playback. Once I get a track playing, and the screen is off, it is a major hassle when I want to simply pause for a second to talk to someone. I have to press button, swipe open, then press pause.

The way I solved this on the iPod Touch was using the earbuds with the inline remote (even has a mic to use for calls in the iPhone).

I am looking for a similar set up earbuds for the Droid, any suggestions?

Can't you just use the current ones you use for the iphone/touch? Don't have to worry about two sets of cans that way!

I tried, with bated breath, hoping it would work. I tried pressing the pause button and it caused all kinds of weirdness. It made it go into a loop of pausing and playing, jumping around. The two did not play well together! :0)

Hmm, thats strange. I wonder if something in there is telling them that they aren't hooked up to an apple device? At any rate, depending on your budget, Shure's come highly rated for their inline mic headphones and also Im reading Etymotic has a new set that works well. I've never used a set of Shure's, but I can vouch for Etymotic, I have some Er6i's and they are fantastic! The set I have doesn't have a mic though.

Also check this link out, I was kind of browsing through it and some on the first page mentioned mic's, it might help.

Bruceo, no, there are no controls on the front when the lock screen is on.

icstars, yes, I could get headphones with an inline mic, but I also need the inline remote with basic playback controls (pause, play, volume). There are some out there, so I will just have to try out some and see which might work.

I just got a pair of Motorolla bluetooth haedphones for my Sprint Hero, and they are awesome. they have play/pause ff and rew on the headphones and it works. plus the double as an actual bt headset to talk on as well. love it when im at the gym listening to music and it will fade the music out and the ringer in and you can answer the call, then after you hang up the music fades right back in without missing a beat. a friend works at vzw and should be getting the droid today. if he does i can let you know if they have the same functionality with the droid as they do with my hero. :)

Marvin, I agree that the media player is a weak spot, but really I could live with that if I just had an inline remote so I didn't have to mess with the phone at all while listening.

Negrito, those look supercool, but I am going to use them all around town, so I really just want earbuds. In the car, I can then take one ear out and be legal.

damn that's terrible. hero has really nice lockscreen controls. I was bitchin about how I did not like how the hardware menu key could unlock the hero and someone suggested lock 2.0 from the market. haven't used It yet but noticed it said it has lockscreen music player control.

I have the s305 and they work great. $39 on Amazon

Damn, i paid my friend $42 to use his VZW discount to get them instore the other day.

I think the sound quality could be better, but they still sound better that stock iPod headphones. Call clarity is good. Had to roll up the windows while i was driving on the freeway last night though. Not sure if thats standard with bt headsets as this is the first i've had.

Even if it had lock screen controls, that would not really solve my problem, since I want to be able to keep the phone in my pocket and just control it on the remote, like I currently do with my iPod Touch. I am sure there must be this option somewhere.

I REALLY wanted earbuds too, but i havent seen any bt ones. So i settled for these and have been quite pleased. These are my first non ear bud type headphones ever.

To each his own, but now you have a solution if you end up having to settle as well. :p

2 points:

1st, the basic on/off inline controls on earbuds seem to work ok on both iPhones and Droids. The more advanced (FF, volume, etc.) seem to only play well with iPhones - even if only asking for basic on/off results. I tried several pairs of each (Skull Candy, Sony, etc.).

2nd, My old basic ones worked perfectly with my Motorola DroidX. Even if I hadn't been listening to media (I listen to a lot of audiobooks) for a while, clicking the inline control on the headset would find my place and continue the book. Sometimes it took a few seconds, but it got there. My new Motorola Razr maxx doesn't seem to like the inline controls. I have 4 different media players installed now and I get partial results with one of them.

If anyone has a better answer (head phones, media apps or settings) to making these things happen better, I would love the information.

Thanks,

Kevin
