Ok I've had the EVO for a full 24 hrs now and either my setting are wrong or 4G coverage is terrible. When I'm home 4G never comes on and I live in Hurst, TX or mid cites of Dallas Fort Worth. I've driven around to some stores and today at the car wash no 4G signal. I've only seen it come on 1 time and it didn't have any bars.

Does anyone else have this issue with 4G coverage not being so good or is my phone not set up correctly.

The main reason I upgraded from the Palm Pre to EVO was for the 4G.

Not happy right now..

Charlie

haha i live in hurst too...heres where it worked for me...staruck near ne mall near chipotle, anywhere outside of mall...barns and noble, up near 121 and glade...it doesnt work at my house near bell helicopter...i havent tried it many other places...but when ur out near a lot of businesses or downtown u should get a great connection. plus, they are expanding it in our area a lot in a few months...fastest ive got it 3.8 down, 1.5 up

Living in Irving, 4G coverage is actually really good. when i was on the street, the download could reach around 3.06Mbps. Unfortunately, but i do have some poor 4g coverage when i stay in my apt. seems my apt place kinda got signal block by some other building or what, but still, download speed could be 1.06Mbps

I live in the Houston area, We have very weak 4G signals here, I live 1 mile from a tower and do not get any 4G signal, I drove over to the tower and was within 100 feet of it and could only get 2Mbps download, I have a clearwire modem and can get 9 - 10 Mbps with it in the same area, I talked to a sprint tech and he said sprint intentionally throttled down the 4G signal on purpose, So sounds like sprint has suckered us into buying a 4G phone and the service is horrible. VERY DISSAPOINTED.

Same here in SW Houston. Sprint's 4G coverage maps shows pretty much almost all of the Houston Metro Area, but near Sugar Land, Missouri, and Stafford area, 4G coverage is spotty at best. Not sure where they got their coverage maps from.

Good thing, is that 3G speeds is good enough. :)

EDIT: If ever I do get a 4G signal, I do not notice any difference between 3G and 4G. Not the 10x faster they have promised so far.

Same here. Just got back from ihop on precinct line. Zero 4g. Same for walmart at NE loop 820. I did get 4g for all of 15 secs on Rufe Snow. 4g was consistent from Hurst to Euless on 121/airport freeway.

I may return my 3 so called 4g phones soon :(

We really love our phones, but the 3G signal is poor.

I have ran several tests and I am averaging 400kbs.

In addition, the 3G loses signal frequently. This would not be so bad if we could get wifi past 10 ft :(.

As a comparison, my AT&T 3G signal is usually in the 1600 to 3200kbs range.

We cannot receive 4g in North Richland Hills. Tech support said we should have signal outside our house, but we don't.

I really like Android now that I have tried it and I really like Sprints prices, but come on :(.

3G is fine outside of my house after I get on the road, but that doesn't help me receive or make calls inside.

At Preston and El Dorado I get ZERO 4G. Called Sprint to complain and was told that my $10 premium per line/EVO is not for 4G coverage but instead a "premium device" charge. I laughed so hard when the gentleman started explaining how the Evo has a 1ghz processor and 4.3 inch screen, ect ect... I replied "isnt that what I payed $199 for?" and "why isnt Verizon charging $10 a month for the Incredible?". Complete joke... A second call to customer service to cancel my 3 ported lines netted me a $10 service credit per month.

Overall all I am happy with Sprint's service compared to AT&T but overall feel my expectations were not met. I absolutely love the EVO but am on the fence whether I made the right choice switching carriers.

Well I can tell ya the 4g in amarillo tx is junk. I've been telling people clearwire wasn't a very good service here but now I have no doubt in there network is pure junk. Heres the speed test results for my evo in 4g vs hero on 3g.
