Root [ROM] Android 2.2 FroYo - Brought to you by MDW (OC & Flash 10.1!)

For any others who have problems w/the stock ROM, since I switched to the 1GHz WiFi enabled kernel that P3Droid provided, along with working WiFi, I also have newfound stability...things seem to be running well, not getting the screen not coming back from sleep, etc...really hoping the new kernel has solved my issues.

I am LOVING:

- Enhanced Exchange support: Google Calendar now supports Exchange calendars, so I have just one calendar app to worry about, and it's better/more full-featured than the Corporate Calendar app was; GAL search!!; Access to folders is better/faster. This is the biggest deal of the 2.2 upgrade for me...

- Enhanced calendar controls (at least I believe they are new, didn't see them before)

- PIN lock: Just really prefer a numeric PIN lock personally, but also our company requires PIN lock capability for email access, so win/win

- Set text font size in Gmail...no more squinting! Unfortunately the same feature is inexplicably missing from the Email app...oh well

- BT voice dialing: All I can say is FINALLY! Well, I can also say that it works flawlessly for me, at least at home. Looking forward to trying it in the car tomorrow.

Now if my kids would just home from the concert they went to I could go to sleep a happy guy...

Has anyone had an issue with apps not appearing in the market?

I had restored my previous apps using titanium backup, and now only the payed apps (which are synced to my google account) appear in the downloads section of the market. All of the free apps, which are on my phone, currently do not appear in the downloads section, but are listed as "installed" when I search for them independently.

Worst case, I assume I have to reinstall all apps from within the market, instead of titanium...but would like to avoid this. Any ideas?

Nope, all mine are showing. Did you use the Market fix from Titanium Backup after restoring? Because my phone automagically restored its own apps without my intervention - I only had to use TiBu for the 4 apps that didn't come from the market.

hey guys, love this rom, but I have one issue.

every few times that I hit the home button from an app it pauses for a second, takes me to a blank home screen, and then a few seconds later all my apps and stuff are back. Just wondering if I'm the only one.

Sounds like you are using the standard home app that comes with FroYo - the 3D thing that caused us all the same headaches on rooted 2.1 ROMs.

It happens - particularly when you come out of running 1) a lot of apps simultaneously, or 2) when you run a memory intensive application that unloads the launcher from memory.

If you're up to it, try an alternate launcher - like LauncherPro.

thanks man. To be perfectly honest, I've tried so many alternate launchers in the months that I've had my droid (probably nearly each one,) and while I actually really like most of them, in the end I always go back to stock. The performance just never matches up as a whole. If this problem persists though, I'm definitely open to trying ADW again.

Don't know if someone's mentioned this already, but to everyone with issues booting back into recovery: In ROM Manager, flash SPRecovery (let it finish) and then reflash ClockwordMod Recovery. This worked for me; I can now reboot into recovery both manually and from ROM Manager.

Don't just reflash CMR because that doesn't really flash it, just checks to see if it's already there. This way you are actually forcing it to completely reflash (I assume).

Good luck! :D

I noted this method and it is now in the OP, but thank you for the explanation. No one knew why this method works, but what you said makes perfect sense!

I don't have time to look through this whole thread. But I'm having a big prob getting Titanium to work with this 2.2 ROM. Every time I go to restore any apps (without any data), my phone freezes and re-boots. Are there known issues with Titanium and Foryo right now? If so, I guess it wouldn't work to well to restore data from my NexBeast 1.0.1 install on top of this 2.2 ROM, eh?

I'm running P3s 1.1 GHz Kernel (which seems to actually be a 1.2 GHz kernel according to SetCPU), but even if I set the max to 600 MHz, my phone locks up and reboots. I've installed the latest version of busybox and USB debugging is enabled.

Thanks for any help!

Try clearing cache from recovery maybe? Ti backup is working fine for me. Have you given it root permissions yet or does it not get that far?

Are you restoring just apps or apps and System? Try just apps with no system.

Also, this ROM automatically reinstalled all my apps, so if TiBu doesn't work for you, restore your old ROM, ensure that Settings --> Privacy --> Back up my settings is enabled, and, if it exists in your old ROM, Settings --> Privacy --> Automatic Restore (I don't think this is in pre-2.2 ROMs) also, and then re-install FroYo after Wiping System, Boot, Cache and Data. Let it boot, sign in to your (primary) account, then reboot it again, and see if the apps start reinstalling on their own.

If you don't want to do all that, do a TiBu restore of one app at a time - it may be that some apps simply are not able to run on 2.2 that you previously had installed.

I did a full system wipe twice and cashe wipe once (in Clockwork recovery) before recovering the 2.2 ROM. It asked me for root permissions when I opened Titanium the first time, I allowed it and it says:
"Root access => OK (BusyBox 1.15.3 from app)
Hypershell (FAST) => YES
Fast/Auto app install => YES (using HyperShell)
SQLite => YES (SQLite 3.6.22 from system)"

It actually restored most of my apps on my first attempt even though it froze and re-booted. It doesn't seem to be doing a full hard reboot (it doesn't shot the Moto logo, just the Droid Eye animation for about 20-30 secs before returning to the lock screen) so I dunno wtf it's doing. I might just try to do a full wipe and reinstall to try again if I can't figure this out tonight.

Opps, just caught this post for some reason. Thanks a lot for the help! I was only trying to do apps (without data first), not system data. I did notice though that as soon as I finished setting up with Froyo (after a full system wipe/factory reset in Clockwork), the market was trying to install like 6 different apps at the same time (didn't seem to have anything in common with each other, just random apps). So I canceled them all and that's when I tried to restore with titanium. I'm about to restore my previous ROM (NexBeast v1.0.1) to check those settings though and try again. Hopefully this time it works as you told me to do. Edit: Yeah, Automatic restore isn't an option in 2.1, but I already had "back up my settings" checked in my previous ROM, so I guess 2.2 is going to automatically restore those settings for me. What settings does this entail, anyways?

Also, can anyone point me toward a good Titanium guide? I'm not sure which portions of system data to restore to get all my system settings back. Some of it seems to have came back magically somehow, such as my wifi profiles, call logs, and background wallpaper that I've noticed so far. Some of which was there before I even attempted the titanium restore. I'm afraid to use Titanium now for fear that I'm going to corrupt the OS and cause major instabilities like I'm experiencing now (I'm getting constant launcher FCs now, which started right after AdFree asked me for root permissions, so I guess I'll have to do a full wipe/reinstall now :().

Hmm...things seemed like they were getting more solid, then I've noticed two things:

1. Obvious - getting spontaneous reboots while the Droid is sitting there in standby

2. Not 100% confirmed, but seems like the Droid is charging very slowly (attached to the wall charger that came with it)

Anyone seeing either of those issues - pretty sure that earlier tonight when I was out w/the phone for a couple hours I didn't get any reboots. Thinking the reboots and the charging problem may be related...

Also just got my first recurrence of being unable to wake up my droid since I put on the new kernel...<sigh>

The things I do to myself in the name of fun. ;)

My SetCPU only goes up to 600mhz. Tried to download one of the kernels and renamed it to update.zip since I use SPRecovery. When I tried to open it, it says "installation aborted." What am I doing wrong? :(

Are you clicking the "allow update.zip" option before actually installing it?

I see you're up and running...I take it that the battery pull worked???

You could have an app that isn't behaving well with 2.2 and is draining the battery/causing crashes? Check your battery consumption and see what is using the most power.

That's a good idea. :)

But unfortunately I had to flash back to my CM 5.0.7.1 ROM as my phone actually heated up extremely hot and shut itself off, and I need it working right now as I'm keeping in touch w/my kids while they are on a long drive home tonight. (Paranoid parent.) :(

I'll put Froyo back on tomorrow and check battery usage after a few hours...I made a nandroid of my Froyo setup, so it will be easy to jump back into it.

I keep thinking it may just be that I have a wimpy phone that can't man-up (Droid-up?) and deal with the power of Froyo. ;)
