Should I return my beloved droid?

and wait for the droid 2 that I hear is coming out soon? I got my droid about 3 weeks ago and am loving it. It's a great phone. Now I'm hearing that the droid 2 is on the horizon and coming out soon...possibly in July? I have until June 9th to return my phone. The way I see it, I can return it and wait and if the droid 2 isn't what I want or not coming out until much later, then I can always go back to the droid. Anyone have any current info on the droid 2? Thanks!

Having not seen a single video or picture of the Droid 2, I strongly suspect it won’t be out in July, or any time soon after.

Unless you are deeply dependent on the physical keyboard, I would exchange it for a Desire or a Nexus. I have HTC Desire myself, and I am administrating 5-6 Android phones, where one of them is a Droid (well a millstone but same thing) and I must say, the Desire and Nexus are better (Android fit’s it better and way more apps work on desire and nexus.) I am sure Droid has excellent hardware, but to many apps just won’t work on the modified version of android 2.1 it is running. On Nexus Android and Android sense, everything works flawlessly.

Sorry for the rant.

I think there is a good chance that either the droid2 or the shadow are out by the end of July but if you wait for the next best phone to come out you will end up waiting forever. There is always going to be a better phone coming out in the next month or two. If you are happy with the droid then keep it. If you arent happy with it then wait for something else. I wouldnt wait just because a better phone is probably coming in the next 2 months.

Oh, I know a better phone is always around the corner. I'm just interested in the Motorola Droid line. Heck, if I wanted the "best phone" right now, I would've gotten the DInc already...but I want a phone w/ a keyboard. I've heard about the Shadow and Droid 2 and I've also heard they are the same phone and others say that they are not, one has a keyboard and the other doesn't, etc. I'm only interested in the droid 2 since that one has the keyboard. I can wait a month or 2 for the new droid. I can go back to my bb. I've read that the phone is already in vzw inventory and possibly coming out in July, but until they say that the phone is def coming out soon, it's all speculation I guess.

The Shadow and Droid 2 are not the same phone.

Shadow is 4.1" and touchscreen only, Droid 2 is almost the exact same form factor as the current Droid.

You can find out a lot more info in the prerelease threads at Howardforums.

They should both be out before the summer is over, and something is going down on father's day (maybe an official announcement?)

I'm personally sticking with my Droid until the LTE smartphones come out. I've got this puppy overclocked and customized to a speed and layout I like. Plus, I prefer to use my physical keyboard to enter login info and web addresses. I want to get my money's worth of use out of this phone, so until a new network renders its radio obsolete, I see very little reason to switch.

I was in the same boat, wondering about the Droid2, but I've decided to return my Evo to get a Droid. The Evo is a nice phone and all, but I've already gotten a couple of missed call notifications when the phone didn't ring, and phone functionality is the main reason I have a cell. It's also a bit big, when taking pictures I found myself inadvertently messing things up by accidentally touching the screen, and one-handed use isn't as easy as on a smaller phone.

Even if the hardware keyboard on the Droid isn't the best, at least it's there. I also like the sturdy build, gorilla glass, and the $19 price on Amazon. Paying so little for a phone that will easily last a year or longer will help me justify getting a new LTE Droid if such a thing comes out next year. :D

I paid significantly more, but I am definitely keeping mine and waiting for the next big thing.

I have yet to run into any apps that wont run on my droid 2.1 .

Only run into about 3 - and that is because they don't run on Android 2.x to begin with.

Oh, and to get back on topic.

I would keep it. Theres no telling when exactly a droid 2 will come. What are you gonna use in the mean time? The old phone that you dumped for your Droid? If Droid 2 comes out you can always sell your Droid on Ebay. Just keep the box and all.
