Whats the worst you have ever dropped your Hero?

Just dropped mine for the FIRST time since I purchased it in February. Dropped it from about average arms height onto a hard-wood floor, and it had a silicone case on it.

Not really worried, but I am just curious how bad you have dropped your Hero at one time or another?

Also, what kind of testing do these phones go through? Are they designed to take a bit of a drop? I have always been curious about that.

Never dropped the Hero.

Dropped a SE w600i from about 45 feet in the air onto concrete once though. Popped off the battery door and threw battery about 20 feet away. Put it back together and worked fine and without any dings or anything. Phone still works to this day. :)

I never personally dropped mine but my son knocked it out of my hands twice, today was the 2nd time. Funny thing is both times we were at his aunt's house on the front porch. Both drops were from about 3 ft. I have no type of protection on it so it has a little cosmetic damage on each corner but nothing too serious. I think he's a tad jealous. :D Don't know the type of testing that goes but I do this this screen is not made from some cheap material. I've sat on it more than a couple of times, wiped off (smuggs?) with my shirt, jeans, towels, paper towels & whatever else is near & not 1 scratch.

I dropped mine from about 10 feet onto a slush and salt covered parking lot. It blew the battery door off, and the battery went about 10 feet skidding into a puddle. Dried it all off, put the batt. back in and it worked like a champ. It has 2 scratches on the top 2 corners that are down to the metal. This all happened the day before my otterbox commuter arrived in the mail. So, I believe that they are a lot more rugged than they appear to be.

Lets see... I've dropped mine more than I'd care to admit. At work I have this tendency to jump out of trucks and I tend to forget that my Boxwave holster isn't all that great against me hitting the ground as my Hero tends to pop loose. I have no skins or case, no screen protector or anything. My Hero is as naked as a jay bird and she still runs fine.

As far as the screen goes there a few tiny scratches, and i do mean tiny, from skidding across blacktop. I didn't even notice them until I specifically looked for them for this post. Each of the for corners have chips taken from them and the bottom near the microphone appears to be a bit worn. There is also a small gash near the headset jack. On a positive note the chrome piece around the bottom is intact with no cracks, just scratches. The Battery cover has some minor scratches as well as two big gashes on one side. And is this wasn't enough to make you cringe already, aparently while waxing a floor I managed to splash the back with a few drops of wax.

I'm a bit rough on my phone and I'm not going to baby it more than I have to. And so far the Hero has survived me admirably.

First week I had mine I dropped it from about 3 1/2 feet off the ground. Every time it landed face down and split into 3 parts, front, back & battery with no case on it. Nothing happened other than I bought a silicone case after that.

Ended up needing a new phone under service protection because my phone stopped vibrating but I think Best Buy got fluid in my phone when they put the screen protector on it.

Mine fell off my lap getting out of my truck. It hit asphalt and screen spiderwebbed cracked. It still worked just rough on my fingers.100$ for a replacement and 26$ for the otterbox case. Dropped it few times after and bounced around like an acrobat with not a scratch on it.

You're not the kind of guy that takes excellent care of your equipment, are you??

To answer the question, I haven't dropped mine yet. (keyword: yet)

I think a take pretty good care . These freakin phones a small and lightweight its easy to forget where they are. I learned what a great investment this 2 piece otterbox is ,its saved me broken heart many times.

I'm glad you said "yet" , dropping your phone is Murphy's law.

I had my hero since November and I only dropped it once. It's the nicest phone I ever owned so I try to keep it safe. The drop wasn't bad at all, just off the bed. I'm so happy I have a screen protector though because this last week my glasses broke and somehow scratched up my phones screen pretty bad.
I'm still scared to peel back that protector :( I hate scratches

The screen is pretty well scratch proof. You should see the demo on You Tube. So check it out. There's also a link to it on this forum. I hate screen protectors too. TC

From reading some of the first few post, I'm really bad at taking care of my Hero. I've dropped my Hero numerous times, either pulling it onto, accidentally, the floor (carpeted) while attached to the USB cable while it was on a desk or window sill, smacking my Hero on the floor from the bed or just dropping it when I fall asleep using it, and dropping it from chest height, which is about 4 and a half feet, I would say I dropped it at chest height about a good 15-20 times since I first got it in March. I have no protection for it whatsoever, except a screen cover, it has some minor blemishes on the corners and sides, and on the chrome rimming, other than barely noticeable cosmetic defects my Hero is in great condition....

...maybe that's why it was named "Hero" because it's tough and rugged, like a "Hero"!

My worst drop: Today. Landed flat on ground.

Glass is smashed, but amazingly display and touch still works, though edges of the glass pieces are kind of sharp :).

Any hints for DYI replacement of the screen is welcomed!

*Fingers crossed*, but the worst I have dropped my Hero is from off the bed while it's been charging, and it hit the wooden railing sitting on the floor nearby. However, I have my Hero well protected. When I first got it, I bought that nice, leather Handglove case for it (Or rather my father did, as a Christmas present with the Hero itself). Then I put a screen protector on it, and a few months back I finally bought a set of three hard plastic body covers for it as well. So by the time the phone finally hit the wooden railing, it had the screen protector on it, enclosed in a plastic body shell, stuffed into my leather case lol.

I freaked out last Summer when I scratched a $20 pair of sunglasses on the street (When I dropped them), so you know that I really try to take care of my stuff.

I think you're best off just getting a replacement. Save all the existing data to your computer, then go visit a Sprint store, and even if you didn't buy damage insurance, you should be able to get a brand new one for less than a screen itself would cost you!
