Cheers for posting this too Future. Have you tried this launcher? is it as responsive as Sense? The TouchWizz (spl?) was pretty much my remaining hang-up on the galaxy. Think I'm now swung :)

I was thinking that I'd have to root and try to find a vanilla Android ROM. Just out of interest do you know in the rooting community whether any previous Sammy droid has had much attention?

It certainly is an exciting piece of kit. Will watch those youtube vids now. Thanks for all your energy about this phone future, you're a wealth of info :)

Don't suppose you know which UK carriers have confirmed the Galaxy S and when they will have stock do you? I'm thinking O2 and Voda from what I've read, stock becoming available a week on monday (the 14th). About right? Best be on O2, don't really fancy voda and their limited-unlimited data, I'm a fairly heavy spotify user.

first is voda with an exclusive on the 16gb version, others should follow quite soon.

play.com and some others are expecting delivery from tommorow.

am using this launcher for my galaxy s.. i like it. Quite customisable.
So far i am loving it.

:)
you have the phone already right?
i just wanted to know if there is an LED indicator on the device?
when you charge the phone when it's turned off, does it have an LED light indicator? i'd like to believe it does as most phones have an LED light indicator when turned off..

please clarify this.. because i've read from another forum that the battery that the galaxy s uses is the one that is supposed to be hazardous when overcharged which im really doubtful towards about.. why would such a phone like this be equipped with some mediocre battery that could cause problems/troubles.. ie. fire? LOL

thanks!

No it does not have a LED light on the device
The manual said that if you charge the battery for more than 1 week it will shorten the life of the battery.. so overnight charge will not harm it.
Look at THIS post.

I see you linked my post I made over on xda-devs.

As you have probably noticed, I've been doing a lot of research on this subject. :)

EDITED:
Slightly' Off-Topic' but seeing as the subject has been brought up here ~ Re the Battery.
It's an Li-Pol. Li-Pol batteries are manufactured as 'wet cells' and hence why there is a need to issue a warning not to overcharge as a wet cell can rupture.
The reason Samsung are using Li-Pol is because unlike Li-Ion, Li-Pol are manufactured differently. They are much thinner than Li-Ion which as we all know is needed due to the thinness of the phones physical body.

I am using ADW launcher as well (Been using it since the beta was out for root users) and loving it so much. With every update it gets better and better. Its also just as smooth as HTC Sense too. Especially the Home screen scrolling.

The customization is so deep.

^^^ @ Future

When every you have more than one type of custom UI/launcher/home, they are listed as options you can choose when ever you press the home button. So if you have say, helix launcher, adw launcher, and launcher pro all installed you will see those 3 plus the regular Touchwiz 3.0 UI listed as a launcher to choose from.

There is also a check mark below you can use to set which ever one you want to use as the default launcher :)

Will we be able to replace some of the touchwizz apps with more generic vanilla Android variants to work with the ADW Launcher?

For SMS I'll be using Chomp, I'm a bag fan... so that is fine
For Twitter I'll be using Twidroid, cool
For Facebook I'll be using Facebook own, cool
For camera, happy to stick with the Galaxy variant
Gallery, is already the stock 2.1 one anyway which I liked on the nexus one

My concerns are around:
Contacts
Phone
Lock Screen

Have all these been 'tainted' (harsh, sorry) by the touchwizz brush? If so can we grab apk's from a rooted Nexus one and supplant with standard ones?

My only hang up really is touchwizz, ADW Launcher looks the nuts to me but I'd like to be able to visually cleanse Samsung from the software as much as possible.

this might already have been answered but:
If i were to buy Samsung Galaxy S, would i be able to get rid of the Samsungs Touchwiz 3.0 and install htc sense+2.2(when it is made available to this phone)?

And would it still capture videos in HD or would that stop?

I am unsure which one to buy HTC desire or Samsung Galaxy S..

thanks

Contacts: Acontacts
Phone: good luck with that
Lock screen: there are some replacements but they are sluggish
