EVO already getting 4G signal in Rochester, NY

I live in Rochester, NY too. Tell me what this means please...

Using 4G I did a speed test. The results were 2103 KBPS for download and 179 KBPS upload.

Using 3G the results were 929 KBPS and 503 KBPS for upload, then I repeated it and got 945 for download and 183 for upload.

Someone explain please...and thank you!!

Um...all of it? I dont understand any of this. Are those speeds good, bad, somewhere in the middle? Why are people posting MB and I'm posting KB?

Renee

- Download speeds are not guaranteed.

- Download speeds are dependent on your proximity to the closest tower/antennae, interference with antennae, network congestion, and your device, et al.

- Theoretical max on 3G (Sprint) is ~ 3Mbs (correct me if I'm wrong...don't have Sprint), where other carriers (T-Mobile) may have 3G/3.5G in the 7Mbs-21Mbs range (different upgrade path)

- Theoretical max on 4G is ~6Mbs (avg, with peak/burst of 10MB+...again, don't have Sprint, but that is what is printed on the site)

- Most people with a solid "3G" signal (multiple carriers) will average 600K-1.5Mbs

- Whether or not any of your experienced speeds are "good" depends on your needs/wants/expectations. For instance, I have a 7Mb plan, and at my house, I avg. 930Kb...if I drive 3mi from here, I get 7Mb+.

How the hell does Rochester get it already? I'm in the fricken capital! We should be first! lol

Nice, isn't Syracuse on the list to get it soon too?

Yep, I have been using 4G in Syracuse since launch. It works at my apartment in Fayetteville but not in East Syracuse at the Carrier Plant.

Speeds have not been amazing for me yet tho.... 1.04Mbps down, 0.15Mbps up.

This morning, I am able to get 1-2 bars of 4G signal in the middle of my office building. I am getting 5.9Mbps down and 1.0Mbps up.
Woo Hoo!!

I am going to visit my Mom in Penfield- Webster area this summer and called and I asked Sprint if they have 4g in Rochester and they said, "No plans to have it there"

What is going on? Is it there or not:rolleyes:

LOL, oh I can tell you for sure it is in certain areas of Rochester as my EVO has picked up 4g signals in serveral places. The local corp store in Henrietta said it is being tested now but should be officially live by end of June/early July.

The guys who sold me my Evo called me on Saturday and told me told me they were testing the 4G signal in Syracuse over the weekend with a official go live date July.

I got a weak signal in my backyard in Fayetteville but am getting nothing now. I was not overly impressed with the speed. Hopefully they work out the kinks when it is official.
