Contacts from WinMo to Evo: Instructions

Okay, I got the contacts perfectly imported into gmail. Contacts, contact picture, all fields (addresses, phone numbers, emails, etc) catagories, and the contact notes. Here is how I did it...
#1: Install Outlook on the computer. The Touch Pro 2 disk has a 60 day trial, so I just used that.
#2: Tried to sync the Touch Pro 2 via ActiveSync on my XP netbook (where I installed Outlook) but kept having problems. I ended up removing the Google Sync exchange server (via activesync) from my phone. It didn't work properly anyway (no catagories) so just removed it. I then hit help and check for updates in Outlook, and installed all the updates.
#3: Now my phone successfully synced via activesync and Outlook had all of my contacts.
#4: In Outlook hit file, Import and Export, Export to a file. Select Comma Seperated (Windows) and export it.
#5: Go into gmail and import that file into contacts.
#6: Now all of my contacts were there, with all the fields, and even the catagories. The only problem is the pictures weren't there.
#7: Then I set up the Google Sync (exchange server) with the info here:

#8: After setting up the Google Sync, did a send/receive on my phone.
#9: After the send/receive completed, all of my contacts on gmail had pictures, and still had the catagories and everything else.

I did it using Sprite Migrate. It was all pretty easy & I transferred all my contacts & texts in just under an hour.

Did you still have contact pictures and catagories when it was all said and done?

Yes I did. The contact pics look like like crap, though.

And your contacts are still in their various catagories in gmail and on your Evo?

If so, then yeah, that is probably the way to go...

I had an HTC Touch Pro and the way I migrated my contact over to my Evo was by simply doing it thru bluetooth. Pair up both phones and on the winmo phone (HTC Touch Pro) go to contacts and select all. Then all you do is beam all the contacts to any bluetooth device you had paired already (Evo). It took me less than 5mins to do everything. I had about 98 contacts and it took only seconds to migrate. Hope this helps as I see it to be an easier method without any programs to use and without using a computer. You can also beam pictures that you may have on you winmo phone.

This is probably the best way to do it. Did it beam the catagories and contact pictures and notes too?

I don't know if it works with any other mobile OS but it works for winmo phones.

Since I didn’t have any pictures or notes on the contacts, I can't really give you a confirmed answer. But I am pretty sure they do since its part of the contacts info. The only difference is that it will take longer for them to be beamed (duh). What I know for sure is that you can manually beam the pictures one by one if they weren’t transferred along with the contacts list.

Glad this worked for you, but I had about 600 contacts & it seemed to just pick and choose which contacts it would transfer. Some transferred and some didn't with no particular rhyme or reason. Some even half transferred leaving some numbers in particular contacts unmoved. The transfer of the pictures was abysmal. Picture quality sucks.

Now I just carry both phones until I find a good way to transfer, which I why I'm here.

Ummm...I just synced my Evo to my laptop that my TP2 was also synced with and it was done. I just thought this was the norm for everybody....
