Help I would like to use my internal storage...

Are we ever going to be able to utilize this storage with anything other than a file browser or the stock apps?

One of the larger selling points to this phone was the fact that it had some internal storage. It is useful, pretty fast and it's right there. I was hoping that HTC would get right on this and have an update out, but I've yet to even hear HTC admit that there is even a problem. I don't remember being told that my internal storage would only be available with the apps that came stock on the phone.

I, currently, have decided to keep my music on the internal storage. It frees up my SD card for storing stuff from apps and the like. I've got a couple short videos on the internal, too. I've got just over 2500 songs which weigh in just under 5 gigs, on my phone. I would love to be able to use TuneWiki or something that was a little better about getting and showing album covers, or even have a choice for a better music player and/or widget. I currently can't do that, because nothing seems to read the internal storage.

Do we have any word that this is going to change in the near future. I know that we are all excited about the prospect of FroYo, soon, but what about this existing issue. Any word on if or when it will ever be fixed?

For video, Act1 can play video from the internal memory. I have searched for a music player that sees the internal storage, but have not found one. The only player that I've found that even acknowledges that it may support it in the future is the "3" player (cubed).

Wow, I was thinking about moving my music to the internal storage because nothing else seems to use it.

But, bTunes won't be able to see it if I put it there? And if I put movies there mVideoPlayer won't see them!?

Seems like kind of a waste then.

I don't think this is an htc problem. I have the act1 video player which was updated to see internal storage. You need to get on the devs for your favorite apps. I, too, would like to be able to move my music off my sd card. I've been meaning to email the btunes dev and the doubletwist guys. I'm still evaluating between these two players.

I'm not putting blame on HTC or singling them out, but the reason that the phone had to come with an SD card in the box for all of those who preordered was because none of the apps could put anything on the internal storage.

I do have Act1 and yes, it does see videos on the internal storage, completely spaced that as I was typing my original post. I actually kept it just because it was one of the few media players that COULD see it. I have yet to find a single music player that sees it, other than the one that came with the phone. Not that I dislike it, I just like my stuff very clean looking and with the very limited amount of album covers it seems to find, I am very disappointed.

We knew that this was going to be an issue, but I'm not sure anyone expected it to take this long to fix. They obviously knew prior to launch that many of the apps wouldn't, couldn't or can't work properly with the storage, but I have yet to even hear of a solution or one coming. I love the phone, don't get me wrong. I'd just like to be able to use the space on the phone.

I'll live, but I'd really love to see an answer to the problem.

I just tried bTunes and, while it lets me add emmc/Music as the music folder, it doesn't recognize anything in there.

On the other hand, I just tried mVideoPlayer and it recognizes movie files in the emmc folder, so that's another option to use to play movies off the internal storage.

At least that gives me something useful to put on the internal storage.

It's a workaround. Video players hit up the internal storage and music players don't yet, so there ya go.

It just means that I still can't use my internal storage for what I want to use it for... Err, that is kind of what I was taking issue with.

I tried MixZing, not a fan of it. The widget was pretty limiting and the album art issues didn't get any better, even after letting it go to work downloading and checking for it. I'm not sure how I feel about paying 6 bucks for it, either. It's not awful, but I just didn't enjoy my time with it. It also seems to have some odd lag issues while loading large lists of songs. So, I'm back to the stock HTC player.

Astro Player sees it, plus accesses the hardware EQ for more audio depth and volume.

Problem is the only player that combines the internal and card space is the built-in music app. Astro Player has to be set to see the emmc (internal) space through it's browser.

You're still missing the point I think my man. Neither HTC or VZW can do anything about it. There is nothing preventing your apps from accessing the storage space, the person who wrote the app just has to program it to do so.

There is absolutely nothing that can be done on the phone side to "fix" this, because it isn't broken. App developers just need to write their programs to look for storage space in other places besides a card slot.

If your favorite app doesn't do this, write the developer and tell him to get on it. If the app is free, send a donation or quit yer btchin.

You see, Samsung did something brilliant. The internal storage is mounted at /sdcard, if an SD card is also available this can be found at /sdcard/sd. They mounted the "drives" properly. You have to remember, we are dealing with an actual OS here. This is like throwing in a new, non-formatted drive into a Windows machine. The PC doesn't know what to do with it our how to handle it. It might know that it's there, but it can't read or write from it because it isn't formatted properly for the system. Get it?

In that link you will find a BOATLOAD of developers talking about how they are going to get yelled at and complained to for something that they can't actually fix and have no real power over. They are probably still working on getting proper permissions and access to the storage. The last post even makes mention of the fact that 2.2 doesn't add a proper API for internal storage.

In summation, a large selling point to this phone and a key feature has been rendered nearly useless. Unless a firmware fix is instituted, we are going to remain in this boat.

And as was specifically mentioned in that thread, the internal storage is mounted to /emmc as opposed to the sdcard, which is mounted to /sdcard.

That is the extent of this "issue". Developers need to write their programs to have a selectable volume instead of insisting that their data be written to /sdcard only.

Picasa Tool for one already does this. There is absolutely no reason that any other developer can't too, other than them not feeling like it.
