Early Droid adopters screwed in terms of upgrading?

With Motorola announcing there to be over 20 new phones this year (The Shadow this month and Droid2 next apparently), I'm wondering, are us early Droid buyers basically out of luck until sometime near the end of 2011?

Not even a year later, VZW is chucking out Snapdragon proc'd phones. What are we to do? Deal?

Well, if you got it in November 2009, the NE2 gets you a new phone in 20 months, I think...Right? Which means you're eligible for a new one next July.

Also, if you keep looking at the next great thing coming out and feeling disappointed with what you currently own, then you'll never be happy. There will ALWAYS be a faster/greater/better/newer phone coming out.

So, to answer your question: Yes. Just deal. Everything will be okay. I promise

if you hold the primary line, you can get the advertised, discounted contract prices every year, you waive your NE2 discount in order to get this. so you could get a brand new phone, without paying MSRP once a year.

You can however opt to save your money and buy at full price and re sell them somewhat off setting your costs if you wish. Or buy an iPhone where steve jobs will tell you that your phone is greatest ever while rubbing your belly and giving you warm milk.

Where can I get more information on this, I have never heard of this. I have the primary line on my family plan and I always get a new phone every year, I am just used to paying retail a lot.

It seems like you don't follow technology much. Not trying to insult you or anything, I just get that impression after reading your question. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Any tech you buy will be outdated within a month or even sooner. That's what I usually say to anyone that asks me a similar question like this one and it's true. Remember though, with Android, at least you'll be able to get the Froyo update and possibly other future updates also. If you really want that upgraded hardware, then just go buy it outright. No one is stopping.

I got the Storm 1 in November 08. When they came out with the Storm 2, I was offered to upgrade at a discounted price (which I didn't do...wanted Android). They might do something like that.

But didn't the Storm 1 have loads of problems? As far as I know, there hasn't been some paramount issue with the Moto Droid. If anything, they would offer an upgrade to us Eris owners, since many issues have arisen since the 2.1 update (I'm one of the luckier ones that hasn't). But even then, I doubt it will happen.

i am trying to find a link for you to click on, but like always the 'my verizon' website is being eternally slow. if you go to your my verizon page, click on the link to 'upgrade your phone' under account actions. once the page pops up where all the phones from your family account appear, scroll to the bottom. there should be some links down there and one should say something along the lines of "annual upgrade for my verizon customers." that should tell you a little about it. like i said, you get the option of buying a new phone at the 2yr contract promotional price, you just dont get to use your NE2 discount.

Seriously, if you want to pretend you have the "best thing ever" that is your only option. I have an incredible and I'm positive that by fall or sooner it will be out dated. Just being realistic. The moto droid is still a great phone, but op doesn't like that it's not the "best" right now. Grow up would be my suggestion.

I'm very glad I'm an early adopter. Not only do I get to use and experience android now, but I'm learning about it every day. So far none of the new phones that have come out offer anything for me that I just can't live without. And really the only thing missing for me is flash, so I'll be pretty set when I get FroYo. When my handset gets too old or becomes obsolete, then there will be a smorgasbord of hardware options.

And really it doesn't matter when you buy a phone because technology will surpass it very quickly, anytime.

You had a droid while I was rocking a dare, I don't feel bad for you. That's technology, you'll always be "screwed", early adopter or not. Enjoy your droid til you can upgrade again, remember you can use a yearly upgrade.
